Official Squatch Watchers

27 and dropping today. Waiting on the snow. School was called off Friday, holiday yesterday, off today and I bet tomorrow, depending on the roads. Tomorrow we will stay in the 20’s too. I probably won’t be able to drive to get my Facet block because we cross the TN River bridge, which is very long.

I see snow falling!

Someone had a bright red poop this morning and landed on the pine shavings. Unfortunately I couldn’t make out the poop, only the blood. I checked vents externally, but couldn’t make out who it came from.

Integrating ???? Should I just let the flock work it out??? They are 9 & 18 weeks. A few pecks, mostly chased by the BC ladies. The 5 youngens are quick!!!

That works too, I've done it. Seems to promote swelling though. Back and forth is definitely the worst thing possible to do. Poor things thaw out a bit then get it again. :(

Quick to warm will promote swelling. I say leave him out unless you have a place only a little warmer.
I bet that’s what happened! We had 2 days of lovely weather after subzero temps and now back to single digits. I’m so over this winter!

First thought with bloody poo is coccidiosis. Unless you see an injury you may want to treat.

As long as no one bird is being singled out I’d say let them work it out. You can’t be out there all the time to monitor and step in.

Snowing now the storm is here. Hubby is scheduled for surgery, but haven't heard anything yet. He quit his feedings tired of tube leakage. Different doctors looked at it & said not to worry. How can they say that it was black and bloody. I hope things will change for him, so worried.
:hugsI would be worried too, we females are good at that. I pray he has a quick turnaround followed by good news.

@TexasSam and whoever else. Do you have a picture of your Ameraucana next to a Bantam to compare for size???

I would say they are at 2x the size of my BC. Last weight she was 1lb 13oz and my smaller Ameraucana was 2lbs 14oz. The larger Ameraucana 4lbs 4oz.

Ew.

They're enjoying celery. They act like dogs or cats when you're opening a can of food. Lizbeth even jumped up on the stove, and was quickly and unceremoniously removed because she almost landed on a burner. Fortunately, I was right next to the burner, but the reason she jumped up was because she decided I was taking to long cutting the celery. Now I make sure the stove is off.
Mine act like that every time I enter the coop or walk around the back of the run... Like Where's the treats?! What do you have? I use a small bucket to collect eggs and as soon as I set it down they have to check it out b/c there *might* be something to eat in it.

Saw this crazy infomercial. Just thought maybe somebody has tried eggletts:confused:I mean it does look interesting, but does it work?
I tried to google it... what was it? Something that makes omelets?

Idk if my hubs would let me. I did lose a lot this year, maybe i can hatch some come spring.
You could *miss* some eggs when someone goes broody.

My poor boys have me baffled. One gets better the other gets worse. They both look good then one crashes and looks awful. I've been setting the timer for the heat lamp to go on when the predicted temp will be 10° or lower. Humidity has stayed in the teens except for the 2 warm days we had. I should get my wireless temp/humidity monitor tomorrow.

I've been turning the heater on all night long, of course it's pretty much running constantly since it never reaches 65 degrees, but it usually keeps them at a comfortable 20-30. But I also don't live there... if I did I'd probably only turn it on right before I went to be and set it to turn off at 7 am, but as it is the timer only goes for 10 hour max and it'd end up turning off when it's the coldest outside. In the morning I turn it off and it usually stays around 20-30 in the coop. Of course I only do this if it's in the teens or lower at night. The other day they forcasted that we'd be +3 overnight and I woke up the next day and it was -6! It was glorious on Thursday night. 50's all night long. I left the window wide open all day and night, but had to run over at lunch on Friday to close them up as the storm hit.

I know. It was looking really good. Then it all went to taters in a hand basket. My other boy's waddles peeled. :sick I've been gingerly putting coconut oil on both boys to keep the skin soft. When I did Captains waddles the edge peeled off in my hand.
Odin's wattles did the same thing.. like a layer of white skin just came right off. I didn't pick at it, but the ladies helped him along since they won't leave him alone. They look better than they did before though. I think I'm just going to do the back and forth thing w/ the space heater, but only when it's in the teens or lower at night. They seem fine otherwise.

I lost another pullet today. Really makes me sad.:(
Oh no! Did you notice that she was having problems?

I am already on maximum dose, have been for a long time. My brain just doesn't seem to get the chemicals it needs.
I run around turning lights on and hubby wants them off. It is like living in a cave!
He saw the new rabbits today. Just wanted to know what the mystery rabbit is. One person thought it might be a havana. At least he didn't complain about getting more rabbits.
I know it's bad for you if you do it a lot, but have you consider tanning beds, or light therapy? Supposedly winter is really bad for SAD, & if you notice a big difference in your mood between winter - summer then it might help. Or try adding more vitamin D. I have a friend who has issues and added D, but then stopped b/c she 'felt better' then she started having problems again. Had to explain to her that she felt better and her levels were normal b/c she was taking the vitamin.. smh.

14 right now, we'll hit a "high" of 17... then back around zero over night. I think we need to start a petition or protest to get rid of this terrible weather. Snow and more snow here. At least school wasn't cancelled again.
The red poop... did you notice any other poop that had red in it? I've seen the intestinal lining being shed but it was never blood red, just pinkish.

Ugh... is there another dr who can see him? Is it HIS dr that's checking him, or just whoever is doing the rounds? If it's not HIS dr, I'd give their office a call and talk to them about things if you're not happy w/ his treatment. If it is his dr then they should be more clear with you about things than 'don't worry'... who wouldn't be worried? SMH. I hope they get things figured out soon for you guys.
