Official Squatch Watchers

Well, as you guys said, there doesn't seem to be any reason for them all to pile into one coop. We checked the second coop, but there isn't anything objectionable in it, except for the fact that we need to replace the temporary 1/4" mesh (which is catching poo) with 1" mesh. Everyone looks pretty good. I'll need to power wash the inside of that first coop though (probably tomorrow or sunday). Jumping taters, it is a mess.

I got pretty good aim from all the practice! Mostly the boys don't handle it well. To macho. So you get shot in the fluff from a distance.
This method does not work with the blukote in a spray can... it gets everywhere but where you need it.

So cute!

I got 2 eggs today! This is the first time in almost 2 months that I got more than one egg in a day. :wootView attachment 1240125
Congrats!! I wonder if that 5 min more of light we get a day has got them going.

Had me scared there for a minute Sam. :hugs

I never seen the stars NOT in a can.

They don't look like stars, but when they're cooked they magically turn into stars.

Pressure washer is a great idea! I was just thinking about how I was going to get a good cleaning of my coop when it gets warmer out some day. Thanks!
Maybe the other coop was closer and when some went in the others just followed along.

Yesterday when I collected the eggs I found one that was a bit off. Thin shell and cracked, but that wasn't my concern (the have oyster shell & layer feed)... it was much thinner and smaller than normal. I think it might be Loki's based on color and she hasn't laid in a couple weeks (but I haven't seen any black feathers around so I don't think she was molting.. just didn't lay, seems fine otherwise). I assume that if they don't lay in a while things kind of shrink up a bit and their eggs start out small again which would explain it. Kinda weird. Pic shows it in the middle w/ my bantam's egg on the right and another normal egg on the left. (IDK why it's sideways... it looks right until it uploads). At first I thought it was from my bantam until I realized it was very light brown.

Got my first egg of the year! Apparently after such a long break the floor is the appropriate place to lay it.
My Blondie was in a nest box so I set it in with her hoping to encourage more eggs. They were all having a blast dust bathing in the shavings as I shoveled around and scanned for poo. (I hate shavings on the floor)

We are already 52 degrees.

24 birds are treated. They are not happy. Came in to change and wash. Tatered on, flogged, clawed but victorious! The only nasty eggs on anyone were on Windy.

Now to clean the coop out. I will get the other 7 birds this afternoon as well as their coop.

My big Brahma Jazzy went all purple comb while I was catching them. Scared the bajeesus out of me.

Keep an eye out for other eggs. Either Ash is making little nest where ever to lay her eggs and them digging around buries them, or they're tossing them out of the usual nest b/c I've found a couple of hers on the floor recently. One my tiny human stepped on (under the straw) and I found one peaking out of some hay last night. My girls FINALLY broke apart the 1/2 bale of straw that's been sitting by the window for a couple months and the floor is covered now... no telling what's under there. (hoping there aren't any vermin hiding in there)
