I'm just curious....why didn't you keep the sand for the winter? I also use sand in my run and my coops.
I left the sand on the floor and have PDZ mixed in with everything. It just seemed to taterin cold in there. Their area of the coop is roughly 12' x 12' with a 11' 6" peak. They roost on a rafter 6' 6" up... (tried to stop them)
There are 15 birds in there. (2 small ones) I did my best to block the wind from blowing under the coop but it's pretty high off the ground in the back.

My uncle use to do that and the kids would fall asleep in their plates. My grandmother threatened to turn him in for child abuse. I think he quit after that, not sure though.

I used to be sent to bed with no dinner whenever I was in trouble... needless to say, I was a very thin child growing up.....

Want to know how badly this stuck with me? I refused/refuse to let kids in my house go to bed with empty tummies. PIC knows he can wake me up if he's hungry.... well, now that he's older, he can go grab a piece of fruit or yogurt or snack bar for himself. I don't think food should be used as a punishment.... even to force feed a child. If I make something, kiddo doesn't like it, we compromise and he takes a few bites of it. I am totally against the *clean your plate* club, cause that causes fat kids.

I have issues with the youngest taking mounds of food and then leaving large amounts wasted. So, he has to finish whatever HE serves himself. Might take until the next day but he has to. It's worked well and there's no longer whole sandwiches going to the chickens.

He's picky too. I have a policy that he has to have one bite. He doesn't have to have more, but he should at least try it with a good attitude, eh? For a while he would only eat hotdogs, rice, and noodles. :barnie Kids. I refuse to give in though and he's getting better.

I can completely understand that position... but my kiddo isn't a fan of making his own food.... although he will make himself a pb&j or grab something..... if he was serving himself and grabbing more than I knew he would eat, I'd redirect him to more portion controlled sizes...... but, again, mine is lazy and prefers to be waited on... :lau

PS. and yeah, I'd make him eat every bite HE himself took......

I make the meals, he serves himself. He got to the point where he'd take a full plate of chicken and noodles or whatever and eat about three bites. :th

He's the youngest so we have issues with him being rather spoiled. LOL.

if we didn't eat the food was taken away and we didn't get anything until the next meal... until I was 10 and was told to do most of the cooking.. I was told what to cook and how, but I cooked it how I wanted.. mom over cooked everything.. my mom liked extra thin pork chops fried so they snapped like a tater chip :sick

Happy Monday! I'm officially unemployed again, got my fat 467.74 cent paycheck and handed it over in an altoids tin "my one tata crazy woman is an altoids addict" she cried.I told her it's ok they're just altoids. She's cool, the lost boobee thing is really bothering her although the one she still has is huge. The chicken toe lump is healing on its own thank goodness, i wasn't looking forward to tackling Marlene.
