If you're getting barred pullets the barring gene is coming from the rooster.ok since you know about breeding barred birds...I am getting barred pullets out of black hens (or white which I doubt) and a mix roo or 1/2cx roo. The hens were either out of a BR or BJG hen under the mix roo who is not barred that I can see. How is this possible? some have strong barring and some are more polka dotted
I have 2 barred hens so I first thought i had put the wrong eggs in the labor day and halloween hatches, but the thanksgiving hatch one barred was still with her brood and the other was molting and not laying. There is one barred pullet in that batch.
I can get pics tomorrow
Sounds like he used to fight them but just wants them as a hobby now.Is this dude talking about cock fighting and trying to get more roos for fighting again?!?!?

I like the gamefowl people that are on here, they're good conversation. Maybe their practises are somewhat questionable, but you'll never find one that doesn't care for his birds well.Eh, maybe not too many people raise gamecocks for a hobby but he appears to be an older dude and they do tend to have weird hobbies if any group is going to have them. No offense older dudes, but y'all know it's true.![]()

Thanks..he doesn't look barred to me, but he is an unknown mix I picked up for freeIf you're getting barred pullets the barring gene is coming from the rooster.
Barring is sex linked. The rooster is solely responsible for whether a pullet is barred or not. The mother is irrelevant when it comes to barred or non barred pullets.
Have a pic of him?Thanks..he doesn't look barred to me, but he is an unknown mix I picked up for free
I will get a new one tomorrow...pics on old computerHave a pic of him?
