I'm jealous. I can't tell if they think I'm a predator or competition. I was shocked with Odin. He's always giving me the side eye, but has kept a good distance until this weekend. When I feed him the past couple days he's been fine, but when I go to close his door he tries to come out and makes angry sounds when I don't let him. Both my boys just became full fledged roosters. I'm hoping it's one last hormone boost before the calm down again. They were actually really good all winter, but even my girls are acting up. Last night Olive flew from the perch to the board above Odin and landed on Ash so now Ash is scared more than usual. Jackie broke the tip of her beak off on something, & it looks like my 4 sex links are starting to molt. Everyone is super agitated.

Competition, from the sounds of it. They act differently if they see you as a predator, IME.

These troublemakers are all cockerels. The cocks are just staying low and away from all the fighting. Smart boys.

Thought and opinions please—

I cleaned the coop out not to long ago when the weather was nice. I put one bale of shavings down in case we got cold again. Now that’s a used up mess and needs to go.

I’m tempted to push it into the run. It currently has snow in so the birds refuse to go out. We are supposed to get a little more snow (thanks Ohio). But generally it’s a muddy mess this time of year.

Am I just going to make a stinky mess of the run?

Depends what your run is like. If it's used heavily and that's all that's in there, yeah, it might get stinky... but it could also be a good contribution for deep litter.

In nice weather their out there all the time. That scary white stuff on the ground is a big no. They look out the door and don’t even step on the ramp.

Pushing it out the door is part me being lazy part hope to make the run less of a mud hole.

Good stuff! Did you order the Ovation? Can't wait to see how you like it. And we'll keep our fingers crossed for a broody too. I like using broodies to add to my own flock, and I try to sell chicks that I incubate.

Yes, it's supposed to be arriving tomorrow. I wanted to get the 56, but couldn't justify the extra $100 expense right now. I'm thinking I'll eventually get something bigger and use the ovation as my hatching bator.

Oh I love apple sauce.

Especially homemade. For some reason, even the best store bought never tastes as good as homemade.

I'm ordering 80 lbs of apples with this month's Azure order so I can make more applesauce to can. I'll have to get some new jars as well.
