I'm on day 25 for 6 of my eggs. If they don't hatch tomorrow, I'm chucking them.

I have had a busy day. First thing I did was go out, separate out 5 cockerels and band their 4 sisters. It looks like 2 of the cockerels really went at each other and are bloodied, but they are getting along now.

I canned 9 quarts of applesauce. Yes, I reused pasta sauce jars. It works.

I set up the broody-ish hen with a house and fake eggs. She went right in and tucked them up underneath of her. However, at dark she went into the crate with the other two hens (I need to find a better housing situation for them). I think I'm going to go out in a little and move her into the house with the eggs. I really want to encourage her to go broody. @WVduckchick

I made dinner and just as I was sitting down to eat, I remembered, the horses. I hadn't fed them yet. As I was getting their feed, one of our neighbors stopped by to say that the other neighbor needed a bill of sale so he didn't have to pay extra taxes. So I had to do that and get that to his wife.

On the plus side, look what showed up in my email!

Good stuff! Did you order the Ovation? Can't wait to see how you like it. And we'll keep our fingers crossed for a broody too. I like using broodies to add to my own flock, and I try to sell chicks that I incubate.

Gah. It's one of those days. Super stressed this morning because all my stuff was hiding. I've been fighting the urge(unsuccessfully at home) to cry all day for the stupidest reasons. I saw Anansi give an update on Lizbeth and choked; for some reason this time it reminded me of my foster sister best friend. I got over her leaving ages ago... or at least I thought I did.

I think they need fed like every 2 hours or something. They don’t beg for food when hungry. You just force it on them.

I wondered about not turning of the egg and not going through the hatch. I thought going through the hatch part was important.

I thought the same thing. Don't they need that 'hatching period' to absorb the yolk?

My cockerels are going nuts too. Carey and Tank tried to scalp each other today.

Wow. I'm going with spring hormone boost. My boys are being absolute monsters. Willie is way worse than he typically is. This morning he grabbed onto my pants & pulled, nipping me in the process. He's always a bit of a turd, but this is unusual. He actually followed me to the door and was coming at me the whole way.

Dude, if anyone would ever craft a peg leg for a chicken, you would be the one!!!!

Chicken Martha, did you really??!! Did she have a tiny eyepatch, like a parrot? Oh crap girl, I was really sad and crying over my ma, and I came out of bed and took an Ambien and decided to fart around on BYC (cuz what else is there, really?) till it kicked in.

And then, and then, I saw your post. And my sobs turned into insane little giggles (trying not to wake DH). So thank you for that, really! Helping a sister thru the grieving process with your pirate chicken, lol.

I'm jealous. I can't tell if they think I'm a predator or competition. I was shocked with Odin. He's always giving me the side eye, but has kept a good distance until this weekend. When I feed him the past couple days he's been fine, but when I go to close his door he tries to come out and makes angry sounds when I don't let him. Both my boys just became full fledged roosters. I'm hoping it's one last hormone boost before the calm down again. They were actually really good all winter, but even my girls are acting up. Last night Olive flew from the perch to the board above Odin and landed on Ash so now Ash is scared more than usual. Jackie broke the tip of her beak off on something, & it looks like my 4 sex links are starting to molt. Everyone is super agitated.
