Official Squatch Watchers

I don't typically do anything I'm supposed to do. I just try to set limits for myself so I don't drive myself nutty and excessively use up flashlight batteries. :)
Wait? You're supposed to do that?

I've been candling daily since day three on the oldest eggs.

We ADORED Scratch and Peck... when we could get it pretty tatering cheap through Azure... and then we couldn't do a monthly pick up since we were basically carrying our route stop and couldn't afford to do that every month. We could place a bulk order for chickie feed every 3 months or so, but not $300 every month!

Candled myself this morning and I am no longer alive inside....

J/K...... candled the eggs... looks like the original thought, that we have 3 living, is correct. Looks like #3 is a quitter (loser... pssssh), so we have wigglies in 6, 7 and Mr Nibbles.
I could support a LOT of chooks on 300 a month.

Well, since I can't candle 1 day old eggs. I moved all the eggs that won't be hatching next week into the brinsea and candled the 5 eggs that are supposed to hatch next week. I didn't candle them yesterday, even though I candled EVERY OTHER egg. All 5 still have little wigglers in them. YAY! While all the eggs fit, I don't have much room for setting Cornish eggs next week. I may have to do another aggressive culling of eggs to get the space I need.

My latest sign.

I finally broke down and cleaned the coop down to the floor, didn't look as big of a job as it actually was. Three wheelbarrow loads of straw, poop, and chicken dandruff. Only found one family of mice, the chickens said they were delicious. I knew it was going to be crappy, I'd only been doing mini cleanings during the winter not to the bare floor cleaning.

I need to clean my coop soon and spray again. I am still trying to get all set up for the quail. Got the second feeder installed, now i need to build feeder #3. The first hutch has been mostly winterized so they will not get drafts, just two more pieces to put on and they are drying. The second one is also mostly winterized but i have one more piece of hardware cloth to tack on the divider. And i need to screw the roof on once the divider is done. I plan to go back out there tonight to work on the other feeder.
