Official Squatch Watchers

I thought about "looking into" GG but couldn't do it. I wouldn't know what I was looking at and after how the ending went I felt worse about trying it.
I said I'd never be able to cull myself and got over that hurdle...maybe necropsy one day.
There is a list of necropsy labs by state. We have one here that chages $20.00 per chicken.

I had one that sounded like your girl that died of fatty liver disease. It is common in certain breeds. Mine was a Black Australorp.

Poor DH Just went out to check for eggs and found his favorite girl Maggie (13 months old) dead on her back in the coop.
She was just in the nest box an hour or so ago and as always, was first out of the house and into the run this morning.
What the heck happened??!!
I’m considering doing a homestyle necropsy this afternoon.

DH is outside crying at the moment. Picking out a burial spot.

Thoughts?
Since you found her on her back, it could be she fell over and turtled. That is where a chicken gets stuck on their back and suffocates. It usually happens in blocker breeds like Cornish, but has been known to happen in bigger DP birds too.

Oh stacey :hugs I am so sorry to hear that. Please give HUGE :hugs to DH from us. IF you can do a necropsy, take lots of interior pics and post them (with a warning in the thread title) and I bet BYCers would be able to tell you if it was heart or liver or what.

That is terrible. So sorry for hubby. I wished mine would at least like the chickens.
