Official Squatch Watchers

I just read this as "sometimes I shoot people that I don't like"!! lol! (I think I am a little dyslexic) Holy Moly Molpet!

I like coons, I think they are really cute. But my chickens are locked up tighter than Ft. Knox, so I can afford to enjoy their antics....
umm some days I wouldn't mind shooting people I don't like :gig
Fort knox at night, but hard to fort knox 150 x 300 ft run with trees

Plant Daffodils with other bulbs you don't want moved around. A line of them at the edge of the bed or intermixed with the others. Daffodils are bitter. Usually once they get a taste of daffodil they leave everything alone to be safe.

I'm gonna have to try this. The girls dug up all my onions.

Yesterday about 3:30 I let some chickens out to play between the poultry yard and the high power line. I was in the poultry yard when a coon came across the ditch after the hens.. he looked at me and kept after the hens. I grab a shovel and ran at him... he didn't run away. I wacked him with the shovel and he looked surprised...kept after the chickens. I wacked him until he went up a tree. It looked like he was a couple yr old ..male.
I think he was sick not to run from me.. or a pet someone dumped... his canines tips were broken.. like he had been in a cage/trap. But he was in good shape... but a little thin and hungry for the wrong type of food.. no last meal for him, slow moving meat hens are safe. Silly birds are used to the coons that used to come for the mulberries and never went after them.

We had coon for dinner a few nights ago for all the same reasons.

We didn’t the short fence thing last year and it worked for a teensy tiny little time. Then they RAVAGED the entire back yard-garden , grass, weeds, and flowers! It looked like a construction site by the beginning of spring.
This year -with the puppy - I really wanted to have a garden again and reclaim my yard but still allow the girls to free range because their run, although fabulous, is really only a “playpen” for when I’m going to be gone for several hours OR when my son’s herding/high prey instinct dog is visiting.

DH was skeptical but agreed to but me the premier 1 (no shock) hen pen. Which isn’t a pen although it could be, it’s more like a free form fencing. It’s 48 inches tall and SO FAR, knock on wood, they girls have not come over the top.

It IS NOT a predator deterrent AT ALL, nor is is dog proof - it’s merely a containment system for the birds , but I think it’s going to help me a lot!
We have it set up along the back part of the yard from the coop to the fence which gives them their own 95 x 12 feet of space.
So far I’m liking it a lot and feel that it was worth the investment.
I have the patchwork quilt garden fence. But for the most part the girls are leaving it alone.

Grilled chicken, anyone?

Understand totally.... All Predators should be shot regardless how many legs they have.

Random thought for the day @Redhead Rae ....When the Milk Drinker is weaned, what are we gonna be calling him then?! (things that make you go "hmmm")
Then you call them bottomless pit! I raised 2 boys, i know!
