Official Squatch Watchers

Holy crap are you addicted to hatching
Well 97 of them are guineas, and i plan to sell those. I will also sell the polish chicks that hatch, and maybe some of the 42 quail. I will also sell most of the 28 turkeys. And naturally, some of the eggs won't hatch. Guineas are seasonal layers, so i need to produce enough keets to pay for their feed for the year.

Heck I have three broody hens right now and one with chicks. I need to start selling

I thought I had it bad with 40 ish eggs in 2 incubators.
I used to have 2 cabinet incubators in TN. One for incubating, one for hatching. And i never turned them off except when we went on vacation! Sold almost all of those chicks, kept some replacements. I sold them as soon after they hatched as possible. Maximum profit that way.

I got to fondle a teenage cardinal today, it knocked itself stupid flying into the carport pole. It fully recoverd but lost a little bit of head feathers. I didn't know about the little thing, sat on my finger with its beak open for a looong time. I did check, beak was fine not broken. It closed it when it started coming back around. Poor bird, but cool I got to look at it and touch it. Wonder what it will tell the other cardinals? Lol. :)
Awww I hope it's going to be ok. Did you get a pic of it?

I peed a little....:gig
Wow... I love the running away w/ his arms in the air, like a cartoon. I actually laughed out loud.

That's awesome! Is this a 'for sale' item, or something you made for home use?

when it cools off a bit, we'll be pokin holes in the ground to plant some goji berries. DW picked up a bucket full from a friend who was thinning her bushes. We got one cell in the brooder ready to go (waterer fixed), still need to work on the other, but thinking about bug bombing the room first. Too many 8 legged friends even for me. Still need to fix the other waterer and add another layer of bedding.

In the world of awesome news, we should be done with hose water today (my main water line has been 600' of garden hose for the last couple months). It's amazing what a guy who knows what he's doing can do with a mini-ex. He also found my old piles of manure, sand, mushroom compost and sawdust. They were flat and I thought done, but no there was 4-6" for each, so he mixed them up and pushed them back into a nice cohesive pile for us to use. He also moved the boulders across the driveway along with a couple tons of big rocks and is flattening/leveling this side of the drive... I'm contemplating putting the orchard in the new flat spot now...

I think we're done planting the garden for now... We need to harvest a bunch of spinach and kale and use it up, along with more carrots.
What's up w/ the piggies? Any expectations of babies?

My dad's building a green house for my mom so we spent a while Saturday night & sunday doing that. It'll be done someday. Not sure why she's spending time worrying about building this thing now when she *should* be getting the garden actually planted right now. It's not even tilled yet. Sigh.
I candled Loki's eggs last night. I'm going to do a post about it later w pics. I think she's all in, she's starting to growl at me when I pet her now. The only egg is see anything in is #1. 2-4 only appear to have a yolk visible. #1 has *something* in it. I'm sad that she might only have one baby, but I'm also worried now that that one might not hatch. I'm considering trying to get a 1/2 dz pure eggs so I'll be more likely to find a home for any unwanted birds if they all happen to hatch, but I'm also worried that if I do that she'll give up before they hatch.
Karissa's scope is this afternoon. Hopefully they'll find that her stomach is healed and everything is good. 3 weeks til her surgery. When we talked to the surgeon they said she'd stay in the hospital for 3-4 days, but Saturday I got a letter in the mail from the ins co approving 7 days in the hospital. I'm hoping that that's a just in case thing so they don't have to ask for extra days later if they need them.
