I'm stumped. I don't know what Nicole has. It could be ascites from my moms rhubarb, but that shouldn't lead to her losing breast tissue(I can feel her bone so pronounced.) She isn't egg bound, because she would have died by now. It could be egg yolk pernitosis, but she had been laying well before. And Dove still isn't laying, which has me very worried.

We have the rhubarb fenced off, so they shouldn't be eating it, but the leaves have looked raggedy, so I wonder if they have been flying in. I've been wing clipping like crazy, but they are very flighty.

Nicole isn't eating well. After further research, I'm almost positive she has ascitites. I may have started the other chickens on that path, too. We need better ventilation in the coop, so that may have triggered it, having many more chickens producing ammonia.

Dove is eating well. They are eating grower feed with free choice oyster shell, but I'll be switching back to layer because of protein buildup worries. I have two 12 week old birds. Will they be ok with the layer, or should I separate them and give them grower?
 
Can you get an all flock feed? That is usually 18% protein.
It wont have the calcium that your young birds don't need so is a good option.

Can you give Nicole wetted feed with a scrambled egg or some tuna mixed in?
Since she hadn't been eating that extra wont hurt her.
Mine get that regularly and actually prefer wetted feed to their scratch. It should get her eating.

How's she doing after the fly strike by the way?
 
Well, DH grumped about the door at first, then while I was napping he apparently took a closer look and realized i did a decent job. So I just see if I can rehang it tomorrow without having to go back to Home Depot. If that doesn't work, then we're stuck with it this way til the weekend.

Ruby, I hope your girls get better soon. Did your girl with the maggots get better? I know you had mentioned possibly culling her over the weekend.

Yay for all the babies and young ones growing up to be like their mommies.

Sympathies for all of those roasting in the heat. I'm not going to grump about our heatwave, since most of you would consider it a nice cool down. I'm grateful for where I live everyday, and y'all make me even more grateful for every day that I feel it's wiser to keep my weather to myself.

@Anansi Yes— keep your nice weather forecast to yourself unless you can send that weather this way.
Currently at 73* with 90* humidity.
I think it’s giving the chickens problems. Went out tonight and one of the girls sounds like a carton a day smoker! She didn’t sound like that all day. But now the humidity is up and of course they are sleeping in the rafters. Poor things have got to be hot up there. I have two fans blowing their direction. Not much more I can do.

So was doing really well so not sure when it happened, but after it kinked scar tissue formed and it stuck to the bottom of her stomach. They removed it & put it back where it belongs, but her stomach was so stretched out that they put in an ng tube to keep her stomach drained so it will shrink down. No foods or drink for a while. We're here for at least a 5 days. They're going to do an upper gi before they let her eat again, but that's days away. It's funny when ppl ask why some things don't bother me.. It's bc things like this happen & you just have to deal w it. At least I changed my pants before I left for the er so I don't have chicken poop all over me, so that's nice.

Well, DD#3 has expressed her disappointment with the plans to rehang the door. She says "I think it's perfect. If someone tries to break in to our house, they'll get confused by door knobs one both edges of the door frame. They wouldn't be able to steal anything big, and we can whack the Mormons in the face accidentally. Lol." Yes, I know the last one is kinda rude, but it would also work for all solicitors. Of course a lockable slot for pizza delivery would be appreciated by that same child.
