I just bought that same waterer! Isn't it great?! I have 2 of the older types and wish they'd had these kind when I bought the other 2.. soooo much easier to flip and carry w/ the handle.

So beautiful!

Nope. Sorry... not going to click on that. If I see it then it'll happen to my chickens.

I spent the weekend cleaning. I washed 1/2 the carpet in my kid's room before I realized the brushes weren't spinning. Took it apart and found some grit up under the gears that are supposed to spin the brushes so it wouldn't turn. Fixed that and got the kids room, living room and kitchen area cleaned. I hope to do my room one day. Basement living is ok, but the funky basement smell creeps up on you. I even moved my couch for the first time in years to wash under it. I'd had a crib stored behind hit and it had been there so long it had fused w/ the paint on the wall and now I need to get some spackle to fix the messed up parts. Ooops.

Chicks are doing so well! They're coming outside on their own now and I let them wander a bit on their own while I did some poop scooping. Thankfully they stay near the coop/ run. They're def afraid of Willie, at least one of the survivors, and Loki. They won't go inside the coop if any of them are by the door. I've also noticed that when I release the big ones to range the babies run in and drink water like they haven't had any all day. IDK if they just do that, or if it means the big ones aren't letting the babies inside / the babies are too afraid to go inside. Unfortunately the run isn't set up in a way that I can put water outside so they're just going to have to get over it and figure it out. They're starting to get more feathers in so hopefully I can identify the boys for sure soon.
I also have that same hanging waterer.
Just be sure it’s hanging from the center hump. One day I was in a big hurry and noticed later in the day that I’d hung it crooked and all the water drained out. Luckily it wasn’t a long time later that I noticed.

Also the eye worms (eww can’t hardly believe I just typed that! - they’re in Hawaii. The chickens eat tons of Hawaiian cockroaches.
Hoping that’s just an aloha kind of thing.

Good morning! Chicks woke me up around 5ish screaming their heads off, a skink got into the pen and apparently they're terrifying. Sallie and Renee were piled in a corner peeping Ethel and Dutch were harassing the poor s.o.b. Everyone survived but the skink lost its tail, I assume somebody ate it.:caf

@apryl29 My waters are mounted on the outside of the pens. I'll post pics in a little while, but you might be able to rig something up. There are a lot of parts that you can make waters from, you just need to set up an appropriate size reservoir that is higher than the rest of it so gravity can help you out. A Rubbermaid container, pvc plumbing pipe and connectors, and the nipples or cups, plus a little bit of planning, should do the trick. You can get the supplies from the local hardware store and Amazon. Oh, and something sturdy to put the Rubbermaid container in so it is stable. Then you run the pipe along the coop fence and mount it, either inside or outside, so the chickens can access the nipples or cups, and tie it to the fence with zip ties. I wish mine looked like what I described, but I have a smaller set up, so the system is more simple. The plumbing aspect is what's missing, but it's the fact that the system is mounted outside the pens that I want you to see, and mine is something that can work for small pens, like hospital or transition set-ups that are more permanent. It doesn't take up space inside the enclosure, is easy to fill, and it won't mess with them being able to drink from the normal waterer that has the open bowl set-up. Hopefully you're able to picture what I described, if not, I can try posting a pic of a diagram for you.

For everyone, :hugs:hugs:hugs:love:love:love.

I've been collecting buckets so I can make my own feeders and waterers. I want to switch to nipple waterers.
My goofy bucket with Gatorade bottles feeder works pretty good but the opening aren't big enough for the boys. I had also modified a previous incarnation so was limited on what I could do. I think I'm going to try peanut butter jars instead of pvc elbows. I plan to leave the threads and screw the lid on from the outside to hold the jar in place.

It works in my head but I'll see. LOL

I also thought you mean skunk. I was not aware that skinks were an issue in these parts. I am now learned on the subject. I probably would have had a heart attack. Glad all the babies made it through the ordeal. And ew at the tail eating.
