Umm I forget to mention I don't like earthquake and volcano going off
Are there laws against collecting rain water? How are the taxes?

I was going to suggest Hawaii since I am CERTAIN there is cheap property now......then you go and throw no volcanoes out there!

Gah! Sooooo picky! :lau

Yep I am Goldilocks
Ha Hawaii is humid and it rains every day.... a friend has a daughter there...can you imagine getting poultry mailed there
Mt St Helens on the west coast too

@Molpet The volcanoes aren't a real threat as long as you pay attention to the geology and part eruption and lahar history. Can't do much about earthquakes, but they are very few and very far between, we've only had one sizable one that we actually felt in the 23 years we've lived here. Taxes are limited to gas and sales for the most part. Some cities have taxes, but there is no state tax, they figure it's better to get money from everyone who spends money in the state instead of getting income taxes from just those who are employed in the state. That way they get all of the tourists and travelers, which suits me fine. The food at the stores aren't taxed, but all other goods are. At least everyone gets taxed equally by the state that way.

ETA No rules on collecting rainwater. Also, Mt. St. Helen's gives warnings before doing anything, and the rest of our volcanoes follow suit. They can be destructive, but if you do your research, you'll find plenty of places that are not severely threatened. Where I'm at, the local volcano, Mt. Rainier, would be more of an inconvenience than a danger. You just have to be informed and refuse to get complacent. I see the mountain on any clear day that I go anywhere, and whenever I go anywhere in the valleys that are at risk for lahars, I make sure to check the evacuation routes in the area. I also get alerts on my phone for anything going on in my area. Honestly, it's not any different than being in Tornado Alley and doing stuff. You're always diligent there, paying attention to weather and where the safest place to go if you're not home when the sirens go off.

Good morning people!
Yesterday we only had ONE storm!
I spent the entire morning sweating and scrubbing my coop inside from top to bottom! The humidity has been so oppressive and thick all summer I was noticing mold growth despite plenty of ventilation.
The mosquitos are terrible right now!

Any suggestions for repelling them? No standing water in my yard but I know there’s breeding spots all over my neighbors yard which I can’t do anything about.

Oh ya'll bittersweet day, the Mexican family that were interested in Early came and got him. They were happy about the 5 toes because he can pass genetics to make better chicken feet and he's got such a big body. So he will live and reproduce but for food which is perfect. The other boys are much calmer, adding Cookie actually chilled Negan out I don't know why but i'll take it. So i'm down to 2 roosters from 5.:woot
:frowBye Early...
adiós amigo tener una buena vida

@apryl29 I set up the crate Thursday, she used the strawberry box for a nest on Friday. She was pacing Saturday morning so I let her out. (Also found a giant poop in the crate.) She ran around for a bit but when I wasn’t looking ran back to the nest. So I put her back an tried again. I let her out Sunday while I cleaned the coop and she stayed out for quite some time. Found her in a nest box later in the day so she spent the night in the crate.
Today she wasn’t “tuck tuck tuking” so I let her out and she’s stayed outside all day. I didn’t take the crate down yet... I also have a fan blowing her way while she’s in there.
Oh, I hope she's broken! You'd think being tossed in a crate would be enough to get them to behave.
The fan is a good idea, but i don't have anywhere I can put one on her w/o it being an injury risk for everyone else. (they don't have the smarts)

yes I want to find a place that it is not above 80 or below 10f.. at least most of the time.. and not humid or too dry.. and has lots of sunshine.. and affordable LOL
Best of luck w/ that one. I think you're only allowed to have 1 off that list. In my case I'd have to add job availability & low crime rate... I don't live in the saddest little town ever for nothing.

YAY!!! Congrats! So glad you were able to rehome him. Are you going to keep both the 2 you have now, or are you still looking to rehome one of them?

Thank you! They eat their own chicken year round and they are feeding 12 people so Early will be doing what he lost his dang mind wanting to do for a good cause. I can't ask for much better. Plus the fact they boy isn't packing a full lunch dosen't matter doing what he's doing. They do know, I did tell them. :)
"Isn't packing a full lunch".. that's the best one yet.

I told the ex I'm leaving the taterhead with him! LOL
I'd like someone to give this little stinker a chance. He's my Faux Copper Marans. Came out of brown egg! His dad is an Isbar. So his offspring would carry the brown or green egg gene.

So pretty. A lady I work with suggested putting my boys in the GoodNews, I probably will as a last resort.. I'd rather not have to pay for an ad if I don't have to. Last time it cost me $17 to list Steve and I gave him away (worth it, but still...).

They also have a hurricane headed that way... I was wondering what that'd do w/ their volcano situation.

My suggestion would be to go back inside until Mid september. We have tons of mosquitoes here and every surrounding community has tested positive for west nile virus so I'm not delusional enough to believe that we don't have it here. Back in the day those Bug bands worked.. but we haven't used them in years. I'd put them on the kids' ankles.

Loki's temporary housing. She was not happy.

I've been catching more mice/ rats again. When I was cleaning the coop I found where they'd made a nest in the eaves, all nice and fluffy with feathers. Luckily, it looks like there wasn't any animals in it. I also found under the cat food dish I put their grit & oyster shell in had a stock pile of seeds under it. And there's a small spot next to the bottom nesting box that got filled up w/ seeds to so it looks like someone was storing food for winter. Hopefully I killed that one too. These traps are great.. not sure what kind, but they have little spikes around the edges and a push down lever so I don't have to mess w/ anything. Just press it down to release the dead mouse and reset.
