Well Rene is going to be everything BUT a salmon faverolle lol! She has decided to be all the colors which is fine.:) Ethel, Dutch, and Sallie still growing like spoiled little weeds.View attachment 1502919 View attachment 1502920 View attachment 1502923 View attachment 1502924 View attachment 1502928 View attachment 1502937 View attachment 1502938 View attachment 1502940
Your photos are awesome. I keep trying to take pics and it looks like they're teleporting. I attempted to get some of my boys that I put on craigs list that were clear, but they were so far away b/c I can't get too close to them or they freak out. I wish we'd been home more when they were babies so they'd be more tolerant of people.

We had ash last week. My Brother lives in redding and they had cinders there.

It would be hard for the fires to get much closer because of the farmland in the Valley. The Yolo fire was the closest--about 15 miles but the wind was blowing the other way
The cinders would worry me.. Yolo fire? Am I the only one who sees the irony in that? When they were talking about the Carr fire on the news I thought they meant car fire.. 15 miles is a little too close for my liking. My brother's out there in San Gabriel... I don't think they've gotten one very close to them, but I recall last fall they already decided what they were going to do if it gets too close. His wife has family in San Diego and somewhere else out that way.

I find the animals get over surgery much faster than people do. But my poor Siamese female still can barely meow since her surgery. Idk what they did to her.
I think 21 is right.. that actually happened to my aunt, she had surgery and the tube damaged her vocal cords and she couldn't talk above a whisper for a while. Maybe eventually it'll get better. I had a cat who never meowed. She made the mouth movements like she was meowing, but nothing ever came out. One day I told her to say something and she started meowing and Never. Shut. Up. Again. Constant stream of meows came from her mouth during the day.

Cool video about Mink being used to hunt rats. I don't want them near my chickens but amazing how well she does her job.
I saw a mink running across a road once.. it was like a rope with legs. Weirdest thing I've seen in the wild.

Thank you Henny. This is all part of life.
I know there are some families somewhere that aren’t dysfunctional, that are all rainbows and icecream sprinkles...

How is Delilah this morning?

I wonder how Cooper’s neutering will go (eventually-it’s still a long way off).
The vet said they’ll go in like a spay. He has one testicle in the scrotum. The other is missing in action.
She said it’s in there somewhere. We’ll find it.
Hopefully it'll descend before you take him in. Poor guy. Hopefully it's not caught up in something.

Olive is molting horribly. I can see pin feathers coming out all over her shoulders and her beard. I'm hoping after these feathers come in she'll be a whole chicken again. She never really finished molting from this spring.

Someone suggested giving them calfmanna when they're molting, is that something I can let the babies eat too? They're about 2 1/2 mo old now.

If there is an actual ice cream and rainbow sprinkles family out there SOMEONE in it is on the verge of totally losing it! :lau

Delilah is feeling pretty good today. A bit bouncier than I would like. My son brought her up without the cone so that she could go potty. Catch 22, she wont potty if someone is watching AND someone HAS to be watching if she is without the cone. She also cannot eat or drink with it on.
I suggested she wear a T-shirt with it tied above her back to snug it up a bit.
Yes mama don't know tater.

Sable will wear the T-shirt when I have her spayed.

My electrician friend did the coop and shed wiring. He said it would be easy to wire in a light like I have on the coop. That motion activation is a great thing to have. It is bright enough to wake me in the middle of the night.

Oh and it doesn't disturb the neighbors due to the shrubs and fencing blocking the light. :yesss:

I like the T-shirt idea.
That makes me think of the light my neighbor behind me has. When I go outside at night, the way it is aimed-straight at me it seems-, Ive almost fallen down my back steps a few times.
It’s as bright as a stadium light.
I don’t know how it’s lighting his yard at all. It looks like it’s pointed straight out.
I hold the railing now always.
Sorta wish since he’s paging for the electricity, it would at least light up the back corner of my yard too. But no. Just shines in my eyes. :idunno

Neighbor across the field (utility easement) has a super powered(?) flashlight that lights up my entire kitchen and scares the daylights out of me. Seems like someone is right at the kitchen window.

Told my son I need a more powerful one, so I can light UP HIS place. He was quoting prices to me. Maybe I can afford a heavy window shade. :yesss:

Yeah you sure can give everybody that, just do it kind of sparingly until you find out if it is going to give anybody the serious runs. It usually dosen't but sometimes you'll get a weirdo with a sensitive belly. At two months though you're good to give everyone the calfmanna.:)
