I assume they drew blood. Nocardiosis should show up in skin scrapings, UA, and bloodwork...... His bumps don't look like any of the infection pics I have looked at...... They look more like abcesses....... Still reading up.
Your pictures certainly help.

Although the lumps LOOK like abcesses they are in odd locations and, from your description of the progression, they don't act like abcesses.

My suggestion (just a suggestion) would be to run a 3 month course of antibiotics to treat bacterial infection. I in no way think to question your trained vets.

Temp normal.
Attitude playful. Bright. No mouth ulcers, retinal lesions, ears- clean as a whistle. Coat glossy and smooth.

Originally they thought it was fungal. Omg. The doc left the room and came back in a full out hazmat suit to finish her exam.


So we did a few weeks of topical stuff and it spread
So then they all wore hazmat suits when they came in pulled out chunks and clumps and planted 3 jars of fungal assays.

in the meantime it had turned into a staph infection.
the dogs wanted to pin him to the ground and lick him so while the clavamox started working I carried him around for days to keep that from happening. They couldn’t believe I wasn’t covered in ringworm.
That was vet #1 and #1+2+a tech.

2 week course of clavamox wrapped up just as the assays all came back completely negative.

It was better but not gone.

visit with vet #3. She didn’t even wear gloves! Wasn’t afraid to shave it to actually see what the heck I was describing.
She asked me if I knew what puppy strangles was and I remembered a case I’d seen back in my days of working at the vet hospital.
She said it was presenting as such even though his lymph nodes weren’t enormous. she’s never seen it IRL let alone in a kitten but she was going with it and represcribing the clavamox for another 2 weeks to treat it AS IF it was cellulitis.
It went almost completely away except for one little dot.
And then it came back this weekend.

His immunization status is precarious and on hold because the rescue group gave him a couple but not the last distemper shot and he was too young for the rabies vac.
Then the vet said they were a crappy brand of shots.

I’m tired and trying to remember now what all we’ve done.
Felv/aids negative
1 distemper
2 feline leukemia’s
Big time gap because of the skin issue and antibiotics so we lost the window on the last distemper and had to start over.
We were supposed to start back up this week but the vet was hesitant and I said oh hell No. .
I said no to the rabies vax too.

I don’t want anything firing up his immune system while this crazy stuff is going on.

No labs yet since so far they bought they were just dealing with a skin issue and he’s been on antibiotics so long.
I’ve lost confidence in them as a practice I think.
I’m not feeling any warm fuzzies let alone GAF’s.
I don’t expect a hug, I just wish I felt LIKED a little, and wish when they say stuff like “oooh what a cutie” it sounded believable instead of like it’s something checked off on their script.
Because you guys, he IS.
And I really love him and can’t take another kitty trauma.

Thanks, yeah it was really hard losing her, i didn't have any pups from her before she passed. And you could not find a sweeter dog, loved everyone.

Yes I forgot to mention that she said she was done with antibiotics until we get a firm dx.

Maybe look at similar things that exist in other animals or people? Possibly an autoimmune response or mast cell response. With it being under the skin, I would doubt that it was fungal, and the fact that it was almost resolved, then came back while on antibiotics says maybe aspirate a small amount of whatever is in it with a syringe and needle and then culture that before using the same antibiotic again. The vet can also look at what is in it under the microscope. That's is probably the first thing my vet would have done if he didn't recognize what it was right away, since looking at it under the microscope is the easiest thing to do.

In the meantime, Google lumps under skin on cats, and any other version of skin conditions and bumps, and see if you can find something similar.

And yes, the vet clinic needs to be shot if they can't muster an honest, compassionate "what an adorable kitten."

I hope kitty gets better soon, and sending good wishes for good results on lab tests for Henny's puppy, I believe.

Holy WOW! You and kitty have been through quite an ordeal!

Hazmat suits? WOW paranoid!

Totally not ringworm, I have seen and treated a lot of that on kitties. My vet would have done a skin scraping before treating it as ringworm.


I can only imagine how frustrated, worried, stressed, and tired you are Stacey.

He really is a cute kitty. I love those big expressive orange eyes. He looks like he is spunky and quite a bit of fun with that face.

One last question and I will read a bunch more.....
Do they rupture through the skin or remain under?

Good points about the microscope. I agree that needs to be looked at and should be simple enough.



Sable's lab work should be in today. I usually hear around ten am on labs.
