I don't know Nunny, it could be worth a try but I think you're doing right by waiting until you can keep a better eye on things. The crate might help, that rooster healed in a rabbit hutch because he couldn't move. His eyes were scabbed shut so thats where I put him. So he healed before I even knew he was broken, not perfectly but manageable.

Do you think this would work for a grown hen. My cuckoo marans that was gimping still is. I've tried wrapping her leg and splinting her leg and nothing seems to work. I noticed today that her ankle is starting to turn in. Like she's kicking her foot out to the side. I sat and felt both her legs all over and I think it's actually her knee that's out of whack. It's very loose. That's the best way to describe it. I can twist that leg a little and her knee wobbles. She doesn't seem to be in pain. And shes trying so hard I hate to give up on her. She needs chicken crutches. I did crate her so hopefully she'll stop trying to use it. As they are not currently living with me I was afraid to do anything that might require more monitoring or tweaking.

I thought it was her ankle. She sort of throws that leg out front then steps down onto her hock. So I tried to splint that just to give more support. Nope. She sat down and bent the splint. (I used two human finger splints) Today when I noticed that her leg is sort of turned out I tried banding it to her body to hold it under her. She refused to walk then when she finally tried she promptly fell flat on her face. That's when I realized her knee is loose. That's the best way to describe it. Loose. I tried to wrap her knee and give it support but nothing will stay up. She moves once and it's all down her leg. Even vet wrap. A sling is next. I need to set up chicken hospital in the basement. LOL Poor Sugar girl needs some extra TLC too.
