Question squatchy chefs:

I’m a city girl with city chickens:gig

I’m grilling whole fish tonight.
If I were to save the cooked heads and whatnot in the fridge overnight, can the chickens have them tomorrow?

Will the bones hurt them?
(Yes they have grit)
Will I have to sit them down and explain it to them....
Or provide them with tiny little chopsticks?

:pop
I doubt they would eat the bones. Unless they were really small.

I think over night in the fridge would be fine. Not sure I could stand to watch them eat fish heads. :sick

You can make fish stock out of the bones, then calm chowder or something similar.

They will eat the meat off of the bones but most bones will be too hard for them to eat
I thought about that but it’s only going to be two heads, and they could sure use the protein to grow some feathers. They all look awful.

I was hoping not to watch. Thought I’d set them down and walk away...
Come back later to clear the table like a server at a restaurant, so to speak.

Poor things!

I have used this when they looked bad from molting

Yeah---I got mackerel once. No one mentioned it was the whole fish. I guess it's my own fault for assuming it would be like tuna or salmon. I've been so traumatized they haven't had mackerel since.
They do like shrimp tails. Preferably with some shrimp meat still in them. Mine don't get much leftover cooked food. Like prepared as a dish leftovers. Rice I didn't use. Or some veggies before they get buttered and salted. They get lots of left over produce and bread. I try to keep the bread to a minimum.
I once took home a $35 breakfast tray from work. It was bananas and mixed berries baked with oatmeal topping. If it hadn't been in the garbage I think I would have eaten it! It was a whole unopened pan of the stuff. They devoured it. Probably one of the most unhealthy sugary things they've ever gotten.

Yup you can give it to them cooked or raw. I have a friend who feeds his the fish after filleting them. What they don't eat, they bury for the most part.
