The grossest thing EVER just happened to me a little while ago. I mean, horrible!!!!
I went out to let my big girls roam for a minute when I got home from work, as it is above freezing this afternoon, and the winds calmed down. They came out of their run. I scooped up my Brahma girl, Deila (named after Smuv) hugged her, and kissed the top of her head. All of a sudden I got a whiff of CECAL POOP. It was on her head....and I kissed it....!(somebody must have been perching on the branch in their run directly above her.)
Dudes, it was so gross. I mean I had liquid cecal poo on my lips. I ran inside and scrubbed my lips with soap and water, and then used this aromatherapy moisturizing, exfoliating sugar scrub on them. I have not licked my lips once in the past half hour.
Ew. EWEWEW.
My hubby: "I am never kissing you again. You are going to get some kind of disease from those chickens."
It's so nasty, but it's also kinda hilarious.Just call me Cindi Sh*tlips, lol!
PS: Where is @Chickassan, she would get a major kick out of this!
I really like that brooder.. I bet it costs $7902, plus tax.I had to buy some bedding... Usually I get bags of leaves but it was a wet fall and I ran out.
Guess what Big R had
I didn't get any

Hopefully they'll accept the scary shavings, but next time you can just make a little path.. they'll get a chance to peck at it and decide it's not a monster.oh and most of my chickens have never seen shavings. 2 coops have older birds that had so they were ok with it
but one coop no one had seen shavings. At lock up 12/19 birds were circling the coop looking at the roosts. When they finally went in the closest roost was full and the back roost had 4 birds on it. They can't get to the back roost without walking through the shavings.![]()
Same. If I want them to self spread a bale I just leave it out and they take care of it. If I don't want them to I have to leave it wrapped in the plastic or tied up.I put down down a compacted bale of shavings and they tore it apart! Gave them something to do and I didn't have to spread it out. LOL
Nice job!View attachment 1685320

5 chicks isn't bad since you didn't expect any, not too many, & there's enough so you don't have to worry about them being raised alone.Just updated the Surprise chick thread with the latest.
I just had to play rooster roundup. The roosters got out of their pen and were in with the flock harassing my hens and pullets. Molasses (my main flock rooster) was hiding in the coop from them.Of course, there were 11 of them and only 1 of him. I guess they heard that I'm planning on taking six of them to our friends' place this weekend as a meat gift.
