Official Squatch Watchers

Good afternoon! Sunny as a mofo outside! I almost can't be out there since i've been a cave person so long lol!
Chickens are happy, they're eating cantaloupe enjoying the sun and having a good chicken day.
Ya'll that are having problems adjusting to the time should just stay on daylight savings like my weird butt does.:gig

I saw a post on FB about coyotes taking out someone's LGD.

I haven't seen or heard any by me but I don't doubt there out there. Only thing I've actually seen predator wise is hawks.

Not even flat version of any of the others on the road by me.

It happens, just depends on how smart the LGD is. As a general rule coyotes will avoid and LGD, but what they sometimes do, is send one out in hopes the LGD will follow it and the others lay in wait. My neighbor has lost two or three (not LGD) to that approach. When my LGD encounters anything bigger than a fox, he uses his voice to scare off the offending animal from a safe distance. It seems to work. :idunno Unfortunately, I have the full selection here. Skunks and Opossums working in broad daylight looking for food.

I thought I had a good thing going with the neighbor having the two LGD until I saw them grooming a daylight possum.
Just licking that possum like it was sugar coated, possum was more ok with it than i'd have thought.
Needless to say I don't think they're as much help as I thought they were.:hmm

Mine has taken out five that I know of. Three in broad daylight.

ETA: Unfortunately, he views anything with four legs or four wheels to be a predator. Including chipmunks and mice, the UPS truck, etc.:th

We have coyotes in the city here, especially in the northern parts of town. There is even a whole pack that lives on the grounds of the super fancy private school by my parents house. Fortunately, I have never had any problems (yet) with them in the area south of town where I live. There are lots of LGDs in the neighborhood so maybe that helps.

I spoke up about lack of predators around and wouldn't you know 2 big dogs greeted me in my yard when I came out of the coop today.

Hackles up and barking as they sauntered over like they own the place. Collars but no tags.

That could explain they extra poop I swear isn't from my dogs.

I guess I'll be looking into fencing....
Menards closer to home can't open soon enough.

Grrr that sucks. Sorry you had to come home to that. Dogs are by far my biggest fear around here.

I too have had a dog problem (bad neighbor). Thankfully, since acquiring my LGD that problem has ended, but my greatest fear is one of my neighbor's (good neighbor) dogs used to visit us often and never bothers the birds my LGD doesn't know that. He hasn't been back since we got the LGD, so maybe he knows better.
