Aw dang Nunny.

I have wondered where hatcheries get all those eggs they hatch.
I really doubt every hatchery has secure breeding facilities for every breed they hatch.

Dang Bob that is HORRIBLE!
I really hope you don't lose any more. :fl

I am going to have to cull Miss May. :(
Today her poop was looking like cooked egg yolk and she refuses to eat still.
Several years ago my Delaware was like that. Necropsy showed her abdomen full of nasty egg and infection.
:(

What kind of hens do you have?
Right now I'm focusing on Holland and RIW birds. I had 50 holland on pasture and 10 in the breed pen. I now have 12 in the bred pen with three cockerels. RIW I had close to 160 on pasture. With me working full time and the danged orange ball, I can't get out like I used to. if I'm idle for more than 5 minutes, the orange ball strikes. In my last life, I could do things around the farm when I wasn't busy as long as all work got done. Here they are concerned about the orange ball. It makes life difficult. I've moved all the RIW girls and one less than perfect cockerel to the breed pens. Same with the Hollands.

I have orders for 80 day old chicks from two folks and 20 from another. Plus hatching eggs. I need to hatch at least 80 of each breed for me. I'm gonna charge $5 per chick as I charge the same for hatching eggs. But I have to call the state vet tomorrow and setup my NPIP testing.

It is just such a change, she's so sweet and cute normally.
Girl dosen't even un-puff when I carry her, can't see her head at all so it looks like i'm carrying a deceased chicken.
She makes Lulu look like a saint.:hmm
Well she IS super unique!
Bitty the cochin is super mellow whether broody or not.
One of the Australorp broody hens has an amazing grip to the nest capability, and she is a screaming biter too.
I feel your pain. :lau Literally!

Morning!

I am just beside myself with this hen not eating. This hen has consumed my thoughts in between the other 1000 things I am doing all day.
I have a question. Does she seem “not hungry” or like it hurts to eat?
She lets you tube feed her without a fight?

Have you noticed any sores or spots inside her mouth?
(Like thrush or canker?)

I see nothing in her mouth. Other than a normal reaction to tube feeding, it is fine. I mean, who wants that? When I sit and feed her small balls of food, I get the stank eye and sometimes she will eat a little out of my hand as to say, “fine, you win.”
I don’t like prying her mouth open to feed her 50 bites. She has the cracked area on her beak, that looks healed, but I still am leery about it.
Sometimes when I walk in the room, she will start to peck at her food as to say, “I’m eating, back off.”
I bought my husband a camera, like an endoscope, to look into small spaces with. I am tempted to look down her esophagus and see what it looks like.

the broody chicken that tore my wrist, when pecking a hole in my hand didn't work, looks like a saint next to a turkey that is just sitting on a nest not even broody yet :old
