Seriously, in the past couple weeks there have been at least three eye less chick threads. No eyes, no holes for eyes just blank heads.:hmm
Seriously?! I need to go check that out. Reminds me of the duck w/ the foot growing from it's head. My cousin sent me a pic the other day of a hairless cat that didn't have any eyes. I couldn't tell if it never had eyes, or if something happened and they had to be removed, but it def had eye sockets. It was very evil looking.

I recall reading that it jumped the boarder from Mexico from Game birds. After that, someone one took an infected flock to a poultry show and infected quite a few
That is why I do not like poultry shows. I'd considered letting the girls do 4H & enter their chickens in the fair, but then I realized the risk and that was the end of that.

Forgot to share my work adventure from last night....
I'm a cleaning lady. After hours office stuff. I'm upstairs in an office and they have their windows open. I can hear the birds outside. Then the blinds move. Nope, not outside!

One very pissed off Robin stuck in the corner. Pooped everywhere of course. But I got her out. The look on the maintenance guys faces when I walked out carrying a bird. :lau
But I didn't want to just toss it out a second story window. Poor thing was exhausted.
That poor bird! Great rescue job! Once I was house sitting and heard something going on down in the basement. I went down to let the dog go out and found that the cat had brought in a live grackle. I eventually got it out, but it was like a scene from a movie w/ how ridiculous it got before I got a hold of it, cat watching the whole time like Hey! That's my dinner, back off! but at least there were no witnesses.

Sad part, not only did the people giving them away know about it, the idiots that went and picked them up did and didn't care..
That's even worse. I hope someone puts a shoe in their backsides. Seriously, that should be prosecuted.

Thank you, I googled the Newcastle disease, this was one of the articles that popped up. I'm finding that more and more, I'll be looking for something and there is information here..lol.
BYC is an amazing resource. I think most people end up here b/c of google.

New Castle kept popping up when I would Google Henrietta’s symptoms. But so did a lot of other stuff!

Hubby said I might just be a crazy chicken lady if I take Henni on my trip and we would get kicked out of the hotel. Naw, I will just put a do not disturb sign up.
He also said I should let her run free to see if a hawk really would get the chickens :thHe doesn’t remember me telling him of the near successful attack while I was working outside by them.
I am so stupid! I just remember there's a chicken symptom checker website! I'm so sorry I didn't think of it before. I hope it helps!

Is there any kind of compensation if your flock is taken out?
That sounds awful to ask but I have some expensive birds. Yes they are my pets and not my livelihood but for some people they are. I couldn't afford to buy an entire new flock. Especially if I was a breeder working towards SOP or some rare breed.

It would be even more devastating if they just culled everyone and left you with nothing.
And is there a 'don't have chickens again' period or some procedures you should follow to make sure you're not bringing in new birds just to expose them too.

I'm looking to find a home for one of my white silkied Serama rooster. 3 is too many. Any takers??
I'd suggest Craigslist if nothing else works. You could try putting an add in the newspaper too. Hopefully you can find him a good home.

Well, Chad 5, Gurtrude. 1, Gurtrude wins. Chad is now in bandages after harassing Gurtrude one time to many. He has a nice gash opened up in the skin that covers his air bladder for making loud, obnoxious cooing noises. So after catching him, stopping the majority of the bleeding and patching him up with Neosporin, gauze and vet wrap, he is in a smaller cage in DD#s 3 & 4s room until he heals. We'll have our normal vet take a look at him tomorrow and see if he needs stitches or not. All things considered, he came out better off than I thought he would.

I'll update later when I take him to the vet.
Poor little guy. Hopefully he's learned his lesson.

I have no idea but his parents came from a very reputable Serama breederView attachment 1750122 View attachment 1750123 View attachment 1750124
Wow, he's beautiful!

I wouldn't touch Facebook if they would give out free ice cream. Ugh, can't stand it.
My sister joined and then quit because whenever she posted something, everyone would tear into her. Not nice like BYC.
I've been on fb for years.. you just have to select your people carefully and keep your stuff private & don't comment on public things b/c people are cray cray. I've seen some insane stuff here too, but it's easy to just walk away or mute people. Plus they have great moderators here that shut things down if they get to be an issue.

Would think there is a Serama thread on BYC. I do know they have no resistance to Mareks - and neither do silkies. My friend who kept house chickens lost her three hens a day apart. The silkie was the only one she allowed outside because she didn't fly. Apparently she brought Mareks in with her. One serama died, then the silkie died, and then the last serama . It started with them being unable to stand up but, they would eat well if hand fed. Then dead. I believe they were all 4-5 years of age.

Caught a trash panda last night. A big one too! I'd noticed that something was trying to get into the chicken run.. I only have chicken wire on one part, & haven't had a problem really in the past 2 years, but it looks like that's over. I'm getting some hardware wire this weekend and I'm just going to cover the chicken wire part w/ it & they should be good. The back run is actually a wooden snow fence w/ a layer of chicken wire on the inside so it seems to keep things out pretty well.. besides the mice.

That's so sad!
