Official Squatch Watchers

Did my fence check, repaired some spots. I walked up on a baby deer, like right up on it.
Little thing, still had spots. I didn't see mom no doubt she was close though. We mutally scared the crap out of each other.:th
Recently, I found out a good way to tell if a fawn is doing fine or not. Look at the ear tips. If they are straight, mom is coming by often enough to keep it hydrated. If the ear tips are curled back, the fawn is malnourished and dehydrated.

Lol! I didn't really look at it's ears, it stood up and bolted from about four feet in front of me. Won't lie, I was getting ready to run didn't know WTF I walked up on.
From body condition and overall energy it looked really good. It can tell the other deer a good story now.:)

I got a welcome to the neighborhood gift! She must really like the chickens. LOL

As for the baby deer... Mom leaves them to find food for herself when they are too little to keep up. She's not far and will come back for it.
That mug is so cool! And I am happy to hear that you have some cool neighbors.

Very nice neighbor! The house next-door to our new roost has chickens, and the story is that she had an undercover rooster that she was keeping, but others turned her in! No roosters allowed.:(

How sad! I personally find roosters much less annoying than badly managed dogs. :idunno

I find it interesting how much attitudes to roosters vary by location. Where I live, the lots are long and skinny (been like that since the Spanish colonized the area). So my neighbors' houses are really quite close to mine—as close as in many city areas where roosters are outlawed. But my area is traditionally agricultural and almost everyone in the neighborhood has poultry and/or livestock of some kind. So no one would even dream of complaining about rooster crowing (or shrieking peacocks, or honking geese, or braying donkeys).
