Well, folks you might think me a bit weird (after all I do have a squirrel named after me), but good things do happen on BYC. DW and I have a really close friend here we've been chatting with for quite some time. We've decided we have plenty of room in our lives for extra grandkids... So with her consent, we've virtually adopted a new granddaughter. Would you like me to introduce her? Or is this just too weird?

That is such a sweet thing to do! There are programs where retired folks "adopt" at schools and librarys. Why not you? Kudos

Not weird at all! A friend of mine and his wife take care of a little boy who is completely unrelated to them. The two families knew each other from the car show circuit and were not particularly close but when the daughter of the other family found herself pregnant and in a bad place she called my friends.
He calls them grandma and grandpa and lived with them for quite some time. Last I knew his mom got her act together and was at taking care of him at least part time.
It’s a wonderful thing you’re doing. The more family the better.
