Hiya Cindi :frow

Here's my stab at country engineering... Was having trouble finding a cover for my Gazebo and when I did find one it was almost as expensive as the whole thing... What do you think of our $10 solution? :gig

Fancy! For how much those things cost they should sell replacement canopies (reasonably priced) for them. You're lucky if they last 1 seasons, esp if you live in a super sunny area.

@rjohns39
This is my solution to casement windows. Can’t put a window fan in correctly so on end held in by the vertical blind apparatus. Sometimes you gotta do whatever works.

Window in the coop!!! It was 90* in there and I’ve been wanting to put the windows in. Of course I was drenched in sweat in about 10 minutes. Then it started raining. I actually stood outside to cool off. LOL I even put a little roof over it to try and keep the rain out. Not bad for having a drill and hand saw. I’ll put the HW cloth up tomorrow. I’m too tired to mess with it today.
Nice job! I bet they're excited about the window. Hopefully it gives you a nice cross breeze.

Oh trust me I would have used an electric saw.... I don't have one.

Well I have a circular saw...not exactly what was needed for a verticle work surface.

I used a branch/tree saw. So big teeth that takes lots of material with each bite. Still not fun.

They were loving eating the saw dust. View attachment 1834910 It is so much brighter in there! And cooler!

X2

There are idiots here that have fireworks and guns :he
I ended up cutting a hole in my wall yesterday too. I used a circular saw first to start the cut, then a sawzall to finish the corners. The circular saw wasn't too bad, except it kept blowing the sawdust right into my face.

No one ever told them "You'll shoot your eye out"?

:barnie

And pace and pant and pace and pant and pace and pant and pace and pant and pace and pant
:: Continue until 8am ::
:th

Side note.....all fireworks are illegal here except those lame ones like smoke bombs and snakes.
:hmm $1500 fine......get to enforcing it coppers or it don't mean S--t!
Here they had to put a thing on the news telling stupid people not to be shooting their guns into the sky b/c the bullet has to come back down and can hurt someone. Idiots, I swear.

I wouldn't give one to a kid now just because it might fall apart on the poor thing.
I'd be scared to death of any firework these days "except black snakes maybe" because they're so shoddy. :hmm
LOL In OH fireworks are banned (even though they SELL them, you just can't USE them in OH)... we got the snake things and my dad gave my kid a blow torch to light them. Probably still safer than a sparkler. Once my ex and I went to the fireworks place & he was setting off stuff for my cousins. He was mad at me for keeping them so far away... until the pipe he put in the ground for the roman candles fell over b/c he didn't hammer it down far enough and it started shooting fireballs across the yard. I'm totally ok w/ the fireworks ban.. Last year the neighbor was setting off fireworks and it scare the crap out of my chickens. I don't think they did it this year.

Morning Chicky!

I let all my burbs out a few minutes ago.
The looks I get after it has rained....like it is my fault the ground is yucky. :hmm

The bunny must already have babies in the hole. She fully disguised the entry.
I got a good look at her yesterday. I think I will let her do her thing. She has a bad facial injury that looks to be healing.
I watched her eat for a few minutes....she doesn't seem to be having trouble.
Awww. that's really nice of you. Poor little bun.

Heh, I don't get the looks anymore guess iv'e said "well I didn't do it" enough.
I still get looks when it snows though can't talk myself out of snow.
I know the bunny is happy you're letting her have a nice place for her little family. I wonder what happened to her face?
I'm debating rehoming Beavis when she heals, not something I want to do but everybody is treating her really weird. She went semi broody that one day last week and it has been downhill since.
I can't have her getting pecked that severely every time that happens, rooster is the main offender but the more I watch i'm seeing he isn't alone.
She's a good little hen, but man does everybody want to kill her when she gets baby brain. :(
Have you tried blu-kote on it?

It is, and she can see to run away dosen't even have the crest excuse like your Polish.
Even Rene kicks her butt and she's the size of it. :hmm

Polish are at a giant disadvantage for sure.
They are super delicate as chicks too.
Mine had spent 5 freaking days in transit so it was a miracle ANY lived. The feed store I ordered through has gro gel put in with every shipment. That is likely the only reason some survived.

Rene is quite a little hen though so I can see her kicking "serious" butt. :gig

My "window".. I couldn't find a real window cheap & I didn't want to pay full price for a chicken coop window so I cut a hole in the wall, covered some hardware cloth with window screen & attached it to the wall w/ 1x2's and washers. If I find a window before winter I'll put it in, if I don't I'll cover this w/ plywood to keep the snow out.

Got some work done on the run too since I had to remove the part where it attaches to the building to installed the hardware cloth. It's much more supported now. I still need to make the door for it, but that will have to be done later.

ETA: Last night the chickens seemed to be upset about the new window. They were all on the back roost where lately they had all been on the side roost. They're just going to have to get used to it. It was too hot in the coop and it needed another window b/c there wasn't across breeze.

:highfive: They will get used to it. Like you said the air was needed.

My birds deal with 11 windows and zero roosts are away from a window. My coop is almost an open air coop in summer. :D

I have been drawing up plans for the nest boxes for the big bottomed gals. I am thinking about how to make the bottom a slide out for cleaning.
I THINK I have it figured. :hmm maybe.
I will be sure and take pictures this round lol.

I'd probably still enjoy black snakes lol! I got an entire display box one year that got damaged really cheap . I lit black snakes for months! Put about two handfuls in the barbeque grill got them taken. I only had maybe two boxes left.:lau
No blu-kote, she's neosporined . Iv'e got her seperated so no pecking chance, it wouldn't help her with the pecking they'd pick a new spot.
I try to only use it if I have to, don't know if you've found out but that crap burns on cuts!
Yay for baby piggies! Glad you're all doing well.

Man after all that I bet you were bummed everybody acted like turds jeeze!
Gah Rene, I feel so silly putting something that small and poofy on a roost alone every night because she's too mean!
She can't even be beside the rooster, she'll sumo him.:barnie

Gurtrude will be spending the night at the vet. It's definitely not a surgery for most chicken keepers, as the minimum is $1000, and we could be paying as much as $1300. For us it's worth it, as she's DD#4s emotional support animal. Plus DD#4 is paying for almost all of it.

You are the best chicken mom ever, Anansi. I always smile when I think of you with your two house chickens! No chookie was ever more loved than yours. :) I hope the surgery goes quickly and smooth! Has your vet ever spayed a chicken before?

Pretty, pretty! Sooo has being in the spotlight changed big bird much?
Any insufferable demands like gourmet mealworms? :lau
View attachment 1835763 View attachment 1835770 My Raven girl. She's so pretty, and sweet. My ACs turned into the most docile, nicest chooks. I think I will always have them. :)
