My derps have started making new noises. They are not good noises. Not good at all. Some are honks. Others are more of a wheezing squeak.

I was surprised at the silly noises when mine did their first squeak.

They are fun silly birds.

Surprise is an understatement! I thought they were dying! None of the other littles make such strange noises.
They are hilarious though. I love them

Got everybody in bed.
I moved the roosts, lowered them and basically made a big square around the coop.
Safety and simplicity lol!
Little derps saw their first hawk, Prince squealed, girls scattered.
I could not find Kiwi's dirt colored butt.
Eventually Prince crowed, Kim hillbilly moaned and Kiwi shot out of a flower pot....
I saw the hawk,it was empty handed but that friggin chicken dissapeared quick!

I'm sorry, my inner 3 year old is dying.

A couple days ago I noticed my bourbon red gobbler ‘s snood was swollen. He is eating and drinking normal, he is strutting and gobbling normal, I don’t see any other signs of distress except that you can tell the snood bothers him by getting in his way. He’s in with a hen that shows no issues. Any ideas on what would cause this?

Hormones. Toms have their snoods swell due to increased blood flow when they are aroused (almost always). When it first starts becoming enlarged, it can cause discomfort due to blocking the nares. You will see them almost constantly swinging their enlarged snood from side to side to clear their nares so that they can breathe easier.

I assume that you are a first time turkey owner since this is normal for all mature toms. Hens can get slightly enlarged snoods but I have not seen a hen whose snood will get big enough to reach past the end of her beak.

Nothing bad, just the language used was amusing.
And the pic wasn't done that way as an annoucement, it wouldn't' quote so it was uploaded separately.
No malice intended at all.
Just colorful wording describing a very swollen turkey.

Well now I learned something about turkeys.

It is also official...Bitty is a nut. She raised her Derps and without weaning them has abandoned them to go broody again.
She is a total nut. I even Derped her and she still went broody again.

We miss her too! I’ve particularly missed her comments on my cute toddler/baby pics.
