My first girls were brown leg horns. "About 2" years old. They are how I got my name. I still have 1 of them. She must be going on 7. Still a red comb and an egg every so often. Shes not as friendly with me as some of the other girls but will eat out of my hand. She prefers I don't touch her. LOL She does walk around muttering to herself like the matriarch she is. I've never seen another girl peck her. (She currently is down to one tail feather and a very sparse body covering. But we don't talk about that!)
In storm news I had 2 trees come down.

Worried about the others that were still there and too close to the power lines for comfort I called the power company. They have a forestry crew that keeps an eye on trees near lines. But I had no idea when they were there last, when some trees were topped, other had died...it was a mess.
I get a call only 2 days later and it's a man who says he's in my yard. I apologize I'm not home and he responds "I know the girls told me." Guy was visiting with my chickens!

So I explain that I inherited this mess and wanted to talk to the power company first then make plans from there. He asked what the goal was and I said "Frankly, get as much work done as I can for free." He tells me the crews are out with all the storm damage so he'll have them out to my place the next day. Storm damage is free work.
