So happy your bird made it. When I first got to Ash I thought maybe I could help her, but it was already too late. I get that hawks need to eat, but I can't believe how bold they are.

That's horrible. Thankfully this hawk was too small to take off with her. She is a bantam so she wasn't very big at all. Probably why it went after her. I see people who let their chickens roam free w/ no one outside all the time, I don't see how people do it and don't lose every single bird.
Just a matter of luck, which eventually runs out.

Just barely turned one last month.

Diagnosis is hemorrhagic gastro enteritis. Basically puking and pooping blood profusely. The cause of it is unknown.

Reading a lot of studies on it and the studies list all the tests that get run and that there is no cause found.

I just spoke to the emergency clinic and she was able to stand briefly so they could clean her up. Still super super sick with basically watery blood out the back end.
Oh my, scary! Hoping for the best outcome.

Henny, you don't think she got something bad do you? You did find that mystery bun.
And is River and her kin doing well?
I'm hoping she didn't pick up some odd doggie germ.
Man, i'm crossing everything for you both screw just crossing fingers.

@apryl29 I'm sorry about Ash, poor little chicken.
Babies, bantams and anybody poofy seem to nearly always be hawk targets.
The only reason these here do so well is bushes and the two male noise makers that tell the girls to hit the bushes.
There is a little cooper's hawk that snatches songbirds pretty regularly so they get plenty of practice.
There is a red tailed iv'e seen in the woods that is as big as the boys bodywise, luckily it hasn't done anything past freak everybody out.
It is the same hawk they were going to gang up on while it was eating a chipmunk on the ground.

I would say I wish we still had Odin, but if we did he wouldn't have been out anyway b/c by the end he was being aggressive towards the hens too. I'm certain he would have gone off on the hawk though. William did stick around and probably tried to help, but when you're 8" tall it's hard to be intimidating. I appreciate my little boy even more though. When we were running around the woods trying to find everyone he didn't even try to attack me or anything. Hopefully we've reached the point of having an understanding now.

They are running tests for poisons too. I don't think they found any or they would have called me.
Yes I mentioned my disgusting neighbor and the odd bun found in the main yard.
The thing with the poison that would cause the bleeding is volume needed to do so. She would have had to eaten 2 standard large tubs of it so roughly 10 pounds. With as often as I am out there with the dogs the vet thinks it unlikely as I would have seen it.
:woot Big dog!
This condition is also more fatal in small dogs than big ones.

River and her kin are all good. The condition is also not contagious thank God!
They did run a parvo test as well just in case. Tilly IS fully vaccinated so the chance is super low on top of the pups having been vetted. Oh and I mop with a disinfecting bleach too.
for real while those extras were here I mopped 4+ times a day more to protect them than mine since mine have all their shots.

That sounds awful!

I hope she is better soon.

Well you guys will never guess what I got for twenty four years of servitude and it is actually something I needed and cherry on top I got to pick out.
I got a bean bag that is big enough to sleep on and a matching foot stool and blanket.
Before anybody wtf's, sleeping in the bed, couch, floor, chair has been killing me and the best rest iv'e gotten have been on a bean bag or water bed.
I am not messing with a water bed but bean bag was within reason so im basically going to have a dog bed for people.
It is called an "ultimate sack" so the giggle factor is way, way, up there.

Yay for a present that you wanted! My kid asked for one of those but we don't have space for something like that.
