Lila's adoption story:
My little Broody Queen hatched a few babies and happily sat on them for a few days before she adopted. A friend had a new mamma leave the nest early with one baby still trying to get out of the egg. She popped in the incubator and it hatched but then mom wouldn't take it. Knowing my Broody Queen she asked if I would try for an adoption. I agreed and on a day I was working towards her house (she's about 50 min away) we set up that I would pick up the baby and a few larger ones from her brooder, silkies, in case Lila wouldn't take the baby. (I really didn't doubt she would.)
So my friend and I get to visiting and time goes by. I have no set time to be at work but need to leave by a certain time. (Alarm sets automatically.) So behind when I should have left I head out and get on the freeway. Not too worried. I'm headed home with the chicks. I'll let the dogs out and check the big birds before heading into work. (Yes I was working in the day and was going to work in the evening as well)
I round a bend in the road right after an exit and I see brake lights. It's late for traffic but I'm past the exit. Then we stop. It must be an accident. We inch forward a few times and then the road is a parking lot. Its getting later and later. As I'm watching the clock I realize I won't have time to go home and make it back to work. Not wanting to abandon my coworker to do the whole job himself, with no notice, I call and see if someone can go to my house. I'm bringing chicks to work!
Waiting on the freeway...

I call my coworker and warn him. I'm almost 2 hours past my usual arrival time as I sat on the freeway a good 60 min. On top of my visiting past schedule I'm now way behind!
I pull in the parking lot and he greats me. I shove a box with chicks in it into his arms and run for the building yelling "Oh my I have to pee!" He laughs and follows with the peeping package. Tiny as he is now dubbed is tucked safely in my bra for warmth. The others being slightly larger should be ok in the box. I cover it with a towel and head upstairs to my area. 20191029_182303.jpg
Of course even though it's late there are still a few people at work. I set the box off to the side and my stowaway and I start working. I'm moving fast as I have another job after this and I need to get these babies home. I finish a row of desks and look in on the bigger fluffs. Everyone is good. Peek in my shirt while out of sight of normal people and get a peep out of Tiny. Ok, keep moving!
I get around to a desk that is occupied and has another man talking to the worker. I know both men and say "let me sneak your trash" as I lean in between them, interrupting their conversation. I stand up to dump the can and "PEEP PEEP PEEP!!!" They both look at me. "PEEP PEEP!" And I start laughing. "Don't mind that I have a chick in my bra." Both still staring I reach in a pull Tiny out. He's bundled in a paper towel and starts peeping again at the bright lights. "Oh! You were serious!" I explain quickly and move on my face burning.

My next account I work alone but there are second shift workers. I message ahead to a maintenance guy I've become friends with and tell him I need a babysitter. His wife got chickens and I'm the go to for info. Not long before I had joked that I was going bring chicks to work for him to take home for his wife. She wants silkies in the worst way. So when I said I was bringing chicks in he didn't believe me.
Again I run in with my box and I'm greeted with surprise. He and anoth maintenance man ooh and awe over the silkies. I again explain and take a breather while we talk chicken. I get to work and when I go to check the box the chicken initiated maintenance guy is sitting on the floor hand in the box. Snapping pictures and sending them to his wife. I ask if everyone is ok and he laughs. We start talking again and Tiny is peeping. He's actually too hot. So I really did need a babysitter...
20191029_200400.jpg I worked while this burly bearded guy sat with Tiny. Watching YouTube and taking selfies. (BTW he insists he doesn't like the chickens.) I finish up working and as I take the trash down find out his wife and kids are on their way. She couldn't resist the chance to see the silkies and snuggle Tiny.

I get home well after dark and bring the babies out to the coop. I plug in a heat table just in case and start the adoption.

The next day at work I get around to a womans desk. She sees me and chuckles. "So I hear you had an accessory at work yesterday." I look up into the office of the surprised man from last night and yell "You told everyone!?!" He laughs and says "It was funny. I didn't think it was a secret." I reassure him it was funny and not to worry I've told the story myself. We all have a good laugh about the crazy chicken lady who brings chicks to work. I guess "it came up" at a department meeting that morning. Not sure exactly how something like that just comes up at a meeting of the financial department. LOL

Tiny is doing good. Lila is a happy mamma.

Hi everyone! Merry Christmas Eve!

Today is the Milk Drinker’s 6 month birthday. He’s had a big week. He started crawling he is now going everywhere and getting into everything. I have to do more baby proofing. I started giving him real food to chew on and taste. He loves apples and chewing on carrot sticks. He ate about a tsp of meat sauce with parm last night. He also really likes green beans and turkey. It took Thing 1 until he was 15 months to want to eat. The Milk Drinker is really eager for food. He also FINALLY completely cut his bottom two teeth. He’s had corners poking out since he was two weeks old, but they just sat there. It’s taking some adjustment. They are sharp little suckers. I can’t let him casually nurse anymore. He has to be serious about the business of nursing or he can’t nurse. When he isn’t serious, he’ll pop on and off and is more likely to bite. I weighed him yesterday and he is 24.5 lbs. 2.5 lbs heavier than Thing 1 was at this age. He is a half inch shorter and had the same sized head though he still fits in the infant car seat that Thing 1 out grew at 3 months. I don’t know. Kids are weird. Thing 1 is becoming so much more talkative. Today I was watching both boys while DH made a feed run (8 hour round trip). The Milk Drinker crawler up to Thing 1 and spit up on his arm. He pulled his arm up with a disgusted look on his face and said “Eww! Mommy! Clean my arm. Clean my arm. Clean my arm please!” I laughed and cleaned him up and told him that he used to spit up on me like that when he was the Milk Drinker’s age. He looked at the Milk Drinker, looked at me and said “That’s gross!”
