Official Squatch Watchers

I know I need to. It sucks that I have WAY to many things going on for a while yet.
I will get to sit with them more soon. I plan to have the duck house built within 2 weeks. Then they will have more space and not feel so crowded when I am with them.

It will be a while.....a long while before they calm the heck down enough to eat near my hands let alone from them.

Y'all.....this Saturday is driving 400 miles each way to pick up my sons additional dog. Nope I am not looking forward to being tied to another freaking puppy. I want to spend my time in my garden and with my birds.

He is taking one week off so I have this week and next to get that duck house DONE. I will be pushing hard to get through it all. Rain today...freezer delivery Wednesday and we used every single 2x4 I had for that roof. That means a Home Depot run Wednesday after freezer delivery....freezer is going in my shop so no need to clog it up with lumber just before delivery.......not even mentioning all the other required stuff I have to do every day.

Any volunteers to help clean out my shop to make room for the freezer???? Maybe help with housework, laundry, cooking????? :hmm
I would help but I need to clean out my own shop!

I understand. 😥

The freezer delivery has been pushed out by the manufacturer to June 9th. A little bit of the pressure is lifted.

Tomorrow....we will be warmer and not raining. I think we didn't get enough to totally stop my plans. The "extra" metal roofing is in my truck. I can get it hauled off to recycle....it is pretty banged up, weird cuts and stuff. Then onto shop clean up in prep for coop.
I got caught up on laundry today. Last week the purged the fire hydrants so no laundry got done due to nasty rust and minerals in the residential lines from it.
Once the faucet started running clear I thought it ok for laundry. Animals are still getting filtered water.

Birds are lingering in the run tonight. I am giving them just a few more minutes then I will make them go inside. Silly burbs.

@FlyingNunFarm :hugs I'm so sorry. It really is heartbreaking when you do everything you can and it still isn't enough. I honestly think that this isn't the best year for hatches. Compared to what I remember from that last several years of reading about everyone's flocks, this has been a year with less than normal successful hatching and first 10 days. A couple years ago it seemed like roosters were the only thing that existed. Last year everyone was overrun with chicks, and this year seems like the eggs and chicks are not faring well at all.

Is it possible that the not so normal weather is part of it? It's not just the temp and humidity in the bators that effect the development, it's the temp and humidity prior to then being collected, and the stress that the hens feel during the fertilization and egg development.

I know that not having a reliable bator is part of the issue for a few batches, but it's been a couple people with hatching/chick issues, so I thought I'd throw out a possible explanation. It won't fix the issues, but maybe help with some of the heartbreak a little.

Hugs for everyone.
