Hi! Great to see you! We are missing WAY too many of our original tribe.Got some of my own chicks on order from Ideal, June 10. We were almost ready to list our vacation rental when everything stopped in AZ. So I went online to order some chickens, and shocked to see that it would be over a month!
23 ought to last almost to August!Hi! Great to see you! We are missing WAY too many of our original tribe.
I want to order meat birds but can't get them until August. I still need to process the 23 I have. Planning to get a start on that Saturday.
Should last us 6 months or more. We usually eat one a week (when we have them).23 ought to last almost to August!
The longer you wait, the longer they will last! I let some go to ~12 weeks once, and they were over 10 lbs dressed!Should last us 6 months or more. We usually eat one a week (when we have them).
Ours are 10 weeks now. I was planning on starting in on them at 7 weeks, but we shorted their feed a bit and they were undersized. They caught back up really quick. Even the runt who is half the size of the rest of the birds is probably over 3-4lbs now.The longer you wait, the longer they will last! by far my least favorite chore. The kids called those that went so long the "fat biddies". I roasted them like turkeys, better than turkey. Some were only 8 lbs dressed, but a couple were over 10 lbs. I would do it again, but they are not rec'd for high altitudes like Prescott.Ours are 10 weeks now. He should be named Pom-pom.Woah was I busy today! Channeled more Squatcher energy for sure. Got the run on the medium coop together. Cause I had birds that needed it....
Met a friend out at a Silkie farm last night. They lady is downsizing her breeding to focus on other colors. Between us we bought almost every bird she had for sale.

These four came home with me. The little grey in the front is spoken for.

This is Sunny! She is a frizzle silkie x oegb mix. She is the cutest little stinker. I couldn't resist her.

This handsome feather duster doesn't have a name yet. He is a Creole Satin Frizzle. The colors and markings on him are just amazing. (Cause I needed another rooster) Yes he is facing the camera, I'm pretty sure....

Then there are Swedish Flowers, some Americaunas, Brains butt is in that picture. They move so fast I can hardly get photos.
I need to get the small coop together so it can be for grow outs. My basement smells like chickens.
I need to mow my lawn still. Maybe when I get home from work.....by far my least favorite chore.
