Official Squatch Watchers

Sooo how early to cockerel's start exhibiting flock leader behaviors like tidbitting and other calls? Hansel has started making this hilariously awful squeak that I think might be a treat call :th

It can be pretty dang early. He is REALLY young to be starting that oh my gosh.

Duck is pretty tasty . . .
Guess I should be careful, I just got a post like that deleted from the meat bird thread!

Well.....I do have a drake...on purpose. If things keep going south I can make more ducks. ;)
I am surprised you got a post removed for identifying a tasty meat.
Especially in a meat bird thread.

So was I! I never had a post deleted before. I just quit watching that thread. The person was on the meat section and asked when to butcher!

Brown Leghorn I had - 8 weeks
Hansel is only seven weeks. Probably I am reading too much into it but he really seems to be making some new noises lately. And at least once I caught him squeaking in front of the girls while holding something without eating it :idunno

For @Parront This was Hansel at 6 weeks

It doesn't mean that the thread starter reported the post....it could have been a sissy ninny passing through threads starting trouble.

All boy there! Dancing and dropping the wing with my brown leghorns -- crowing too, they had to go the the BBQ at 10 weeks they started to crow.

The only reason more folks do not raise ducks is all the work to pluck them. Man, they sure do taste good, I think it is worth it!

My neighbor and his boys hunt A LOT. He said they skin rather than pluck.
I guess we may learn here.

I just like the skin. If you process them at the right time, it is not to bad to pluck them. It is the pin feathers that cause the most work. Pekin ducks (which is what I had) are so fast growing, that they go past the right time before you know it. 7 or 8 weeks is all they take. Duck skin roasted in a hot oven is worth the effort, to me!
