Would crib or bassinet sheets work? I know you made the beds yourself and a quick sheet change is genius. Wondering if either of those sizes would fit to make one less job for you.

Unfortunately no. The beds are 2'x4' so about 4" narrower than a crib mattress and Rivers is 2" thinner. Initially I had bought a $50 crib mattress for Jack. It did not hold up AT ALL to dog use. Now they have sofa cushion replacement foam which comes just 2' wide.
It won't take much to make the sheets really. Just cut a few inches bigger than needed and sew the corners then a pocket/channel all the way round for the elastic to go in.

Taking a deep breath while the other 4 dogs try and calm down. They are not pleased that I came back without River. They keep hitting the window and barking at my car.

I wonder if you could make a duck cloth cover for a crib mattress and then you could used the regular sheets to wash.

I made quilted slip covers for the pads. They are a bit difficult to put on and take off. Crib stuff is the wrong size....
I have this fleece and several other prints that are dog themed. I just have been a bit busy or forgetful when it comes to sewing them up. :hmm

Oh, I forgot to tell you guys the funniest bit about this weekend.

Well our old van was acting up very badly on Friday. Our mechanic thinks he fixed it, but we didn't want to risk it on a 700+ mile trip (270+ miles from home). So, we rented a minivan for the trip. My dad rode out with DH and my dad brought our van back. Thing 1 was asking "Where's Daddy?" and we said he is picking up a car for the trip tomorrow. When DH got home, he told Thing 1 too look at the car we got for the trip. He looked out the window, gasped really loudly and said "Oh THANK YOU Daddy! You got me a new van!" :lau

It took us a while to convince him that we aren't keeping it. In fact, DH is just getting home now from returning it.

After writing this response.....I find myself wondering if you meant the duck cloth to help the crib mattress last longer.....
The fail point we had had to do with the springs and dog feet pressure points ripping the waterproof outer layer.

The foam pads are very comfy and no springs. Quite expensive but thanks to coupons at Joanns I got them for roughly $70 each after my 50% off coupons.

Jacks bed (yes I know he is gone but it will always be Jacks bed) is on a frame I made that puts it at sofa height. We often sit on it with the dogs.

I meant it to be a new outer layer of the mattress so their feet don't go through to the springs. There are also no spring options for crib mattresses I believe.

But, hey, if the system you have works, go for it!

They didn't quite carry me off but they almost did. I have 8 bites on my left hand ALONE and they all itch like crazy and look ghastly. I can tolerate WV skeeters. I barely react to them on the rare occasions I get bitten. These are as bad as I used to get as a kid (of course we were staying about 5 miles from where we lived until I was 12.
Have you tried ACV on those bites?
