But that way when you open the door, birds can fly out both sides. You can put a strip of wood on top of both pieces and screw them on. No caulk needed.
Ooh, looks like I’ll get to buy more furring strips. I’m starting to develop a thing for them. :lau
Whoops! Hit Post too quickly.
Is it okay to put regular hardware cloth in the middle or should I use something that will obscure their sight from one another? I don’t want them stressed constantly.

Have you tried horse stall pellets in the run?

Those aren't as readily available here. Truth is I cannot say I have seen them in any store here.
I have had the squeegee in a section 20x25 for over a decade. It works very well even when my dogs had runny poo a while back it was not difficult to clean up. I will look at horse stall pellets in case they will work better than shavings to get us through winter.

@CapricornFarm I looked at the stall pellets. I don't think they would work in my run. I need the volume the shavings give me. I dont think a 40# bag would cover much.

What’s squeegee? I tried looking it up but you can imagine my search results.

Squeegee is just like pea gravel EXCEPT in pea gravel there will be pieces ranging from 1/4" to 3 /4". most will be closer to the 1/2" or smaller size. In Squeegee the pieces are smaller with a max size of 3/16". We had an issue with our coon hound mix almost a year ago. She swallowed a rock, spent a week in the emergency hospital with 3 IV pumps running to keep her blood pressure up. I am a bit scarred mentally from nursing her back to health after it all. She was hemorrhaging out both ends. TINY rocks only allowed here. The one she swallowed had to have been one they dug up.

A visual....

I would use something solid so the males are not constantly bickering.

Thanks :)

Where I have it I went DEEP....really really deep. We have big dogs who use that area to piddle and poo. I put 7-8 inches there. I topped it off this past spring. it lasted roughly 10 years of dogs kicking it through the fence (and losing a tiny bit at a time when I pick poops up) before I had to much dirt showing. The rest of one kennel needing it done is 25(ish) feet by 35(ish) feet. I forget the exact measurement. The second kennel is 12(ish) by 25(ish). Yup me and my poor ole wheelbarrow will be getting a work out.
Through the fence.....I could probably get a half ton gathered back up.
