Official Squatch Watchers

Thanks. Indeed she does lay a pretty light blue egg. Her egg is next to the green egg laid by a starlight green layer. I have given up on EE's since I always got defective ones. So far (a couple years in) and I still like these weirdos.

That looks like a pretty blue, better than some Easter Eggers my neighbor has.

Thank you again. It doesn't scream BLUE but with leghorn in their breeding I didn't expect bright blue. I am pretty happy with them. The cream egg on the right confirmed that not all of my California whites are California whites. Two of them are either Ideal 236 or austra whites. It's ok at least they lay.

Hello folks,

Still hanging in there. Looking forward to having a couple months off work. DH has put in his notice that his last night of work until after the baby comes and I've recovered is going to be 3/5. So we are gleefully counting down the days. He hasn't had a single night off in about 2 weeks. We are thinking that when (or even if) he goes back he's going to give them two nights a week that he WILL NOT work. Even though it is mostly a sit at your post job, it is wearing (on him and our family) not to have scheduled time off.

The cream is also a nice color. I think an austra white would probably lay an egg like that. I am getting a cream to tan egg from the Barred Hollands I got from Sandhill preservation. They say in the description that their birds do not lay a pure white egg all the time. It is OK because they add another color to the egg carton. Where did you get your Bluebells?

Actually from a feed store. I was in Bomgaars for something not bird related and of course...peep, peep, peep drew me in. :p
I paid $8 each for them. More than an EE would be but worth a chance for me to get purdy eggies.

I see them in the Tractor Supply listing from Hoover's Hatchery. You can order them, 10 for 69.99. I see the chicks in the store, but I like to order them. Then I know that they have not been handled by lots of shoppers. I like raising chicks, then I keep some and sell the rest.

Yes they are a Hoovers thing. I would order directly for sure. They have interesting markings...no 2 exactly alike and all that.
Rita is very dark in color and has pretty golden highlights. I don't have any pics of her. She is skittish like crazy and absolute bottom of the pecking order. Yup even below the cross beaked orpington.

I was reading about the Cream Legbars, and admiring the blue eggs. I like that those are sex-able at hatch. Maybe next year, I have a full schedule of chickens right now! :lau

That is good to hear!

Good morning Parront 😊 have a great day!

A funny about Rita....

Even though she is super skittish she wants to stay close(ish) to me when roaming the yard. Yesterday was a nice day so we hung out outside. She realized I had moved....farther than tolerated. A solid launch and she caught up by flying about 5' high for 20+ feet. Of course as soon as I looked her direction she bolted for the coop. Silly birdy.
