Hi everybody :frow

I managed to clean out about a 1/4 of the run before i gave out. I dug down at least 6 inches to get all the layers of stuff out and am replacing it with pine bark nuggets. Its been so wet that i could smell the run just walking up to it. Not good. I need more energy and time. Maybe a helper 🤔

I threw some pine bedding pellets for horses in my runs a couple weeks ago. I feel like I need more. Everything is so wet and swampy. I'm over it. The pine bark nuggets sounds like a good idea. I got some peat moss that I want to give a go, but haven't yet. It's supposed to be dry and warm this weekend so I might get to it on Sunday. All the poop and mud is getting funky.

It's been a long year. So here in OH we just got word that the Avian flu has been detected in Franklin county (about 3 hours from here)... I saw a post that says "ODA is urging poultry owners (including backyard flocks) to intensify biosecurity and best management practices."
So besides keeping all the chickens inside which is impossible. What exactly are they expecting us to do? As far as I know there's no way to keep wild birds out of our yard.

It's in wild birds less than 50 miles to the north and south of me. I guess they think we all have roofed runs big enough to keep them in an emergency.
I sure don't.
