So sorry to hear about Bob. There's been a lot of BYC losses in the past year.
Yes I am afraid to ask when someone hasn't been on for a while. So sorry to hear about Bob. There's been a lot of BYC losses in the past year.
Hi all. Hope everybody is staying warm with this polar vortex garbage. I stopped into ease my paranoia about my chickens and the cold. It is a cozy 7° here in Northeast Ohio and now that I'm down to only five chickens after a loss this past fall I'm more concerned about them being warm enough. According to google they can handle down to zero degrees and we will be a bit lower than that this evening and tomorrow. I spent the last few days insulating the ceiling and walls with cardboard and there is an entire bale of straw on the floor. And I've put a piece of cardboard into block them into the coop since none of them are smart enough to stay inside and away from the freezing cold. Kids are both back at school. Oldest one will be graduating in May with a degree in history and the younger one is halfway through the sophomore year of her animal behavior and ecological conservation degree and she wants to be a veterinarian. Things have been a lot recently. I hope things are going well for everybody and your 2025 has been good to you so far. Stay warm!
Same. I was wondering about Nunny.. I know we've all gotten busy though and figure she's just out living her life too.Yes I am afraid to ask when someone hasn't been on for a while.
Wow 30s! That sounds nice. Mine don't go out when there's snow on the ground so they're going to be blocked in until at least Wednesday and they should be fine. I just checked them. The coop was at 20 w no extra heat. The sun is helping a lot. I did put the space heater in bc my birds are almost very old. It was 35 when I left. I went back and forth about it for a while... there's so few and they're so old I worry they aren't going to be able to overcome below 0 Temps. It would be easier if I lived w them.It is CRAZY cold here too. Our high will be 11 with tonight dropping to -13.
You have done well for your flock. They will be ok.
Mine are closed in and MIGHT get let out tomorrow when temps are in the 30's.
