Pigeon Talk

It is my experience when a pair of birds build a nest that is an indentation to surround the area with a ring made from a piece of garden hose or something similar about 10 inches in diameter to help keep the eggs from going astray under the incubating birds. It will help to insure a hatch.

I gave them some dog food bowls and ordered these nest pads. I was pleasantly surprised when they actually started building a nest in them! Lol

this post about examining the wing of a healthy bird first for comparison is a great idea too.

@backyard pigeons - I wasn't sure how to check Doba's wing so I invested in a visit with the vet to watch her do it. She simply extended the wing and felt along the bones and joints for any thing unusual. Nothing was found. Doba's wing hardly droops at all, like your bird so I doubt you will find an obvious break. Perhaps some nerve damage could be the problem...I just don't know.

How is your bird this morning?

Idk if this diagram will post but it shows the clavicle**, aka furucula, aka wishbone which could have been damaged but Idk how you could tell without an x-ray or what could be done other than cage rest if it was broken.

edit to add - ** #24 and #25
Also if the ribs were hurt that would also impede flight imo.

Thanks so much bio. I just finished looking over it and it seems that there are only 2 deep puncturs and not 3 like i thought. Well there are a few scratches but nothing bad. One of them is on the other wing and the the other is under the other wing. I will post pics when i have a phone i could use. I let it loose in my room and it didnt fly at all. Im wondering if the puncture under the wing has hurt the ribs?

So maybe the hawk just latched with its feet on but didn't get to take a bite?
They have some vicious talons.
Is she eating and drinking for you?

I just got into pigeons about two years ago. I am loving them! I have Portugeuse Tumblers and Frillbacks. What do you have?
Welcome! :frow
Im still in the planning phase so none here yet..;)
Id love to see pics of yours tho!:love
My brown barred grizzle Horseman pair made a nest in the corner of their pen. The female is back and forth to it and the male is always sitting in it dancing.

Oh but i didnt feel anything different on each wing so unless they both broke at the same spot, i dont think there are any MAJOR breaks. But i wouldnt be surprised if its fractured.
