Pics must be deceiving, because the first pic looks the worst to me. No blood vessels. The 2nd and 3rd still look ok, but still several days to go before they will be ready to hatch. Also on the 3rd one, there is an area where it looks like the CAM (blood vessel network) failed to expand into the whole egg, but its not a very big space, so it should be ok still.
I think you still have a few days to wait.
This is what I was thinking too that the first pic looked the worst.

Doesn't look like any change so far but I can't tell if any of the faint fracture lines on the egg are new or old. How many hours is a reasonable time after external pipping to wait before peeling back a bit of egg shell or some intervention. How long can this duckling breathe withiut breaking through

Thank you for checking them out- I will keep everyone posted.

Waiting 24 hours after external pip is normal.

Do you mean the one that pipped the wrong end?
It’s hard to see the opening in the membrane sometimes, but if it broke the shell, the membrane is pierced too. So it’s getting air. It can stay like that for 48 or more hours.
I sometimes use a magnifying glass to watch closely, you will see the broken chips of shell move, ever so slightly sometimes.

Ducklings also often like to make more than one pip before they get going. They punch around and get into position. You may see 2-4 punches on the shell before it actually starts zipping. Resist the urge to help.

Assisting would come if the membrane gets brown, or you stop hearing peeps, or stop seeing any movement at all. Candle and look for movements before breaking any shell pieces off though.

Okay no sign of membrane yet because shell pieces haven't started to fall away. We never heard any sounds to begin with and haven't been able to see movement, just feel it if being held.

If I want to candle tonight what should I do to protect the membrane from shrinking when I remove the egg from the incubator. How long can I have it out?

I wouldn't worry so much about taking the egg out to candle real quickly.
Don't keep it out long but a quick candle shouldn't make a difference.

Okay about the other duck. It has definitely changed since I candled on day 22. But I'm not feeling or seeing movement and haven't heard anything. It is quite heavy and definitely had been growing. Now on day 26 it looks completely dark minus the air sac at the top which is kinda small. I know it is normal for it to be dark at this stage but worried about not feeling any movement and no signs of pips. Wonder what might have happened since day 22 or if I'm just being paranoid. Should I be able to see anything, if so what, during candeling at this stage?

Just heard our other one cheep for the first time!

Coming up on 24 hours with no progress. Thinking about chipping off a piece of the shell where it has pipped before bed. What should I be looking for when I do this and what should I be most concerned about during this process.
