And the hard boiling did not work out good. 5/5 cracked
Good to know. I'm trying the water glassing for the first time this year so I haven't had a chance to try any yet. I was thinking I would only use them for baking or scrambled eggs anyways. We have a small family so hopefully we will have enough fresh eggs when we need them during the slow times and use the water glassed eggs for baking, etc.
I've been thankful that this group of hens has pretty much laid all their eggs in the nesting box. (The other batches we had -- not so good) This means that most of our eggs are coming in clean and can be water glassed.

Here is a great video on how to do it. I don't have a kitchen scale so I Googled the amount of lime to water ratio and this is my note: Water glassing eggs: 4 level TBSP pickling lime to 1 quart water. The 4 TBSP pickling lime equals the 1oz needed. I use a 2 gallon glass jar with lid that I bought at Walmart. I actually had to buy another jar because the first one filled up so fast. And it's normal and ok for the lime to separate from the water even after you mix it. And if you don't use the eggs for a little bit, there will be a crust that appears on the water, that's ok too. Good luck and enjoy your water glassed eggs!

Thank you so much. This is awesome.

I had the lime separate and settle, and the crust on the surface. Glad to know that's ok.

Getting my canning stuff out.
I'm going to start with sweet pickle relish this year, I think.
Asparagus, Black Raspberries, Rhubarb, Strawberries and Green Beans are in the freezer storage so far this season.
Ready for the freezer, blanched green beans:
