Hey all. Thank you in advance for your responses. Once again whenever I have a question arise I know you will all be here to gi e me amazing advice. So today my concern is the heat. I have finally gotten my flock down to my 3 girls and finished brooding the rest for friends and family so I am jow down to my golden laced polish, barred rock and welsummer pullets. They are 17 weeks old and it is scorching over here in boise. Temp over 100 degrees staying hot till 8pm sun setting at 10pm. My polish and welsummer are both 2 hot tolerant breeds but my barred rock is more of a cold breed. She pants alot more then the others and I have done So so much every day to help them with there comfort on these days. Ice water. Ice block. Ice packs to stand on. A frozen brick to stand on. And today I bought a mister finally. It sets up like a snake coiled and standing to strike. It mists pretty well and doesn't get everything wet. Here's a pic of the set up. I think it's a well ventilated coop with a breeze that blows through it. My question is respitory dangers. What are your experience with these. Do your birds like them. Will it help? THANK YOU!

I’ve never used a mister. Other than that, it sounds like you’re doing lots of good things for your hens.
Some other things to consider might be not using the deep litter method if you’re currently using it. The process can generate quite a bit of heat in the coop.
Also, make sure they have lots of shade, and try not to feed them too much scratch (millet), because that can also raise body temperatures.
Good luck!

Putting a shade cloth over the whole coop/run might help.
Looks like you have no deep shade at all.
Misters really only help where the air is very dry as humidity can make the heat feel worse.

I like the ice blocks, electrolytes help too, tho wont eliminate panting.

Here's how to add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

My kiddies get hot easily here in the. SW dessert. I’ve set my hose spray selector on mist and place it on the low end of the coop near the fencing their green garden. They can choose it if they like. A small child’s hard plastic pool with bare concrete pavers with a drip line. The concrete wicks up the water and cools them by the feet. They do use this.
if they are unusually heat-stressed, I will spray them gently until they have cooled down enough. They do not like this at all.
Best to you!
