Ok so this will be my first year starting seeds inside, i just bought organice garden soil from home depot cus it was on sale super cheap then on the way home i got thinkin i bought garden soil not potting or seed starting soil. Whats everyone's opinion on this. I think im gonna roll with it cus i mean past 2 yrs ive started the seeds right outside in the ground. Whats the difference? Let me know your thoughts please an thank you.

The difference tends to be that potting soil has more peat and perlite, and drains better. It's also sterilized. Garden soil is usually a bit heavier.

We bought that particular stuff last year. Ours looked like it was a decomposed mulch. We mixed it with other soil for outdoor pots.

I have that stuff as well, as raised bed filler underneath my more expensive soil mix. It drains decently and is cheap so does the job. It's not really great for growing stuff in without amendments because, as noted above, it's kind of chunky/mulchy. I did get kale and carrots to start from seed in it, but that's about it.

I use Miracle Gro potting soil. I get the 2 cubic foot bag and it's pretty economical. Agree that garden soil is not the greatest. It's a poor choice for potting.
