We use electric for a fruit trees and berries and have built several fences.  SDM has the best approach, 110 with continuous charge.  I haven't had luck with solar chargers, something always goes wrong.  Ours are a distance from the house too and what we finally settled on what works best for us is a 5-10 mile fence charger that you can hook to a 12 volts deep cycle battery.  You can get many months of life before recharging.  SDM uses the solid wire, but I really like the thin nylon braided wire with SS wire woven into it.  It is easy to work with and slightly elastic.  A little piece of foil wrapped around the wire with some peanut butter is a great way to train the animals it's HOT.
you're talking about the flat nylon that's the good stuff

That's the other problem. I have birds that run the yard. Have been for years. I will end up with a bunch of fried chicken.

Thanks for the pics. Yeah I'm not completely sold on anything solar. I have a few solar lights and they work good in all but extreme cold. What kind of volts are the wires set at? I have no idea. My guess is to stop a fox, raccoon etc. it would kill a cat or chicken huh

Mines straight 110 that's what u get hit with its not adjustable. Maybe flypen will give u his experience with his

It won't kill a cat unless it gets tangled that's how my wife tested ours but it sure bit the crap out of him made him flip and vibrate on the ground a couple seconds

Ok now I have been looking at all the wires, tape, poly rope, poly wire, etc.. What about branches falling on the wire. I need something that would be easy to repair, or splice. I have 3 gates 2 on the outside of the run 1 connecting the 2 main parts on the inside. I may be a complete and total dumb*ss but I have no idea how to make it work with existing gates?

I'll keep researching it and I'll come back with more questions later I'm sure.
