It also depends if the hen trusts that particular rooster.Hmmmmperhaps it COULD work? I might give it another try!
I think that’s a good point. I will have to do a some bucket comparisons with my boy and show you. I really don’t think he’s more than two lbs. He’s really a sweet guy. My serama will squat for him (and me lol) but she’s still so new at it, perhaps it scared her a little. They get along great though. I was really hoping she could have a mate.I think it's very much a matter of technique and charm on the rooster's part. My most damaging cockerel was a tiny silkie cross who ripped feathers out of even my big orpington girls. My silkie roo is a gentleman, waits for them to squat for him and does his business without trouble- gentle enough for even tiny hens though he's only interested in other silkies. So I would say it depends which he's more like. If the hen is allowed to properly squat then the size difference is much less of a problem.
He is big for a silkie! But a handsome boy!! I am going to do some bucket comparisons tomorrow. I haven’t weighed him either but my best guess is around 2lbs.My second largest Silkie Rooster. I just haven't weighed him yet.
