This morning we had a power crew outside our house. I had a nice (short) chat with one of the guys. He came in from Iowa. The other truck was from Nebraska. They told me everyone has been very nice to them. I thanked them for coming all the way here to help us. He blew it off, saying "It's our job." Bobby, ever the cynic, mentioned later the boatloads of money there were getting...
In any event, Midwestern crew notwithstanding, we STILL do not have power. Most of the streets around us are back on, but we're living in a little strip of dark. I'm starting to get a little squirrely. Laura is making me crazy obsessing over when the power is coming back on. And now it's spreading to Bobby. I may be next. I checked the outage map a little while ago.
We got lucky this morning. We went to the library to return a couple of things and found a gas station with a short line for gas containers (which we now keep in the car for just such a situation). We filled up two 5 gallon tanks in about 1/2 hour. It was like hitting the lottery.
I think I'm going to try to find a way to volunteer. I'm starting to lose it. It's all we talk and think about around here.
On the bright side, I've completed 61 out of 110 squares for my hurricane afghan. And Laura's being elected Department Secretary at the FD meeting tonight.
And her boyfriend's house has power. So she can stay there and stop driving me crazy.
