Without using sexlinks, you'll have to wait 6 weeks(or more) to ID genders?

Yes. The trick is to accurately mark them during that time. I was woefully incompetent at that, so just looked at the final gender ratios.

I predicted that all 3 CCL that hatched would be females.
I have 2 females and 1 male.

Did you look at the one that did not hatch? Was it well developed enough to be able to gender id it?

They are precious!!! I just love babies!

Of your 4 CL eggs, I would have predicted 3 female and one male (egg #34). Which egg didn't hatch?

I'm VERY tempted to get some CL eggs and hatch them. There is a lady that breeds them on here that lives close by. Now, I'd have to promise my husband that I'd sell every single one of them as I'm out of space until we build the addition. But on the other hand...I have been wanting a rooster that I can use to make Easter Eggers with at some point. Come on y'all...talk me into it!

You could always keep some of the babies and sell some of your adults.

Wow, your right egg 34 was the only male. Egg 33 did not hatch. Looking back on my chart, I don't know why I didn't have egg 34 listed as being put in the female hatcher.
I know that is the one that had the male, I remember thinking seeing it hatch and willing it to change colors to be what I wanted!!

LOL...I couldn't sell my big girls...they are my babies and I love them all. The only choice I have is to sell the chicks...which is fine...all in the name of science...right?? Selling them would recoup the egg cost which is a positive point to use when talking my husband into this hatch.

OK...so I pitched my plan to my husband...here is his reply:

Does that man know me or what. So...do you think that he is saying that I can keep what I hatch???

Oh...and the "builder" he references is HIM! I do love that man!!!

The Easter Egger reference in my text was telling him I was going to keep a CL rooster so I could make future Easter Eggers...LOL!

He's a keeper. Now, you gotta learn how to use those power tools so you can turn the build into an extended "date".
Everything we build is an extended "date"...you could say my role is being the General Contractor and he is the builder! We actually work really well together on projects! I've already scheduled a meeting to see the new plans he mentioned!!;):D

Yes, I thought #34 would be male because it had the lowest SI number in the CL group of eggs. Remember, I like to compare the breeds/hens eggs instead of taking the highest numbers over all. LOL...now I want to go look at all of you're numbers and see what I predicted (I put all of your numbers in a spreadsheet so I could guess)!
Ha!! Awesome,
Though I will admit as they starting popping out of shells things got a bit confusing. So I do want to warn you that chicks may have been assigned the incorrect egg number
I can obviously tell you and show you the breeds and what hatcher they came from.

Regarding the unmatched CCL, no after all was said and done, I always candle and then if I am still uncertain, I will float test.
This egg was somehow missed during day 14 tosses. It must have been a early quitter.
out of all of the eggs I have candled, I would say these OE, CCL are the hardest to see.
Basically I was just looking for aircell growth, because unless it was the polish or LF egg, I wasn't going to see much at all.

Here is a pic before they were separated to the hatchers.
I had females in Brinsea Octogan, and males were in my other hatcher that I made from a all in one kit from incubator warehouse.

On April 14th, I'm going to go to @bluehousefarm and get Cream Legbar eggs to hatch! Saskia has graciously agreed to let me measure the eggs to select the highest SI eggs! My plan is to select 11 eggs that I believe will be female and 1 male egg. I was going to go a week earlier (on the 7th), but my husband reminded me that if I set eggs on the 7th that we would be out of town the weekend they hatched, so I had to bump it up a week. I'm very excited to hatch chicks that can be sexed at hatch! Not to mention, having the opportunity to measure and select the highest SI eggs! :wee:celebrate:yesss:
