There are babies!!! I must have miscounted what day I was on because I wasn't expecting them until tomorrow. I guess I shouldn't have been so worried about the air cells, they seem to be pipping and zipping just fine. There are at least 7 out and I think a few more were zipping. The one thing about the hatching boxes I don't like is it is very hard to see inside because I made the boxes using plastic canvas. I will take the chicks out tomorrow morning and post some pics.
Yay!!! Congrats!! Its so exciting when they start hatching!! Can't wait to see baby pictures!!

Ok, so looks like the Italian eggs are the only ones that hatched so far. Suspected girls 13, 16, and 24

yeah I was having trouble keeping times straight... A BYC member made a hatching ap for the computer I have been using. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/free-egg-incubation-software-new-release.1235974/

Ok, 9 more chicks, and one still in the incubator waiting to see if it makes it. I opened all the other eggs and they all were dead and had unabsorbed yolk. That would mean they died at or around lockdown, right?

Good morning everyone!

I candled my eggs this morning and went ahead and locked them down. I brought home 12 eggs and one broke so that left me 11 to set. All but one has developed and went into lockdown. Egg #12 was an early quitter (looks like around day 5). I'll keep you all posted when the pipping and hatching begins!! Keep your fingers crossed for me! :fl

As a reminder, here is what I set:

Hi Sara!

What cute tiny babies!!! I don't know anything about hatching quail, but for chickens the yolk starts getting absorbed around day 16 of the 21 days it takes a chicken to hatch. So, if it looked like none of it was absorbed, then death probably happened around two or three days before that. It just depends on how developed the chick was (toenails, leg scales, feathers etc.) Can't wait to see how your predictions turn out!!

So, I assume you will have to wait a few weeks to be able to tell sex with quail correct?
