Wish I would have read your reply earlier!! I have been glued to the incubator for the last 2 days!!
Almost all have hatched.
I have one left, that is probably going to need assistance.
In fact I need to go check on it now.
Anyway, so far I have 3 eggs that still show no signs of hatching.
All the others hatched.
1 egg started hatching, and zipping, and then somehow got knocked around by the other chicks and I assume suffocated.
I noticed it had not made any progress and checked on it only to find a dead chick that had almost made it out!!
I also have another chick that I may need to cull.
It is blind in one eye, but the eye is no big deal. It's that its equilibrium is so bad. It takes a few steps, then falls over, s just lays on its side and paddles. It was pecked pretty badly by another chick while paddling and not being able to get up. So I am treating that.
I will try the vitamins to see if that could give it a better life, but I don't want to prolong its suffering.(my daughter asked me to try the vitamins before I make a decision)

Aw, I hate to hear that about the one that suffocated and the blind baby. :(

Keep us posted!

Well the blind baby is doing much better right now.
He (I say he because he was put into the male hatcher)has had his polyvisol today, and has successfully righted himself back from a fall 3 times in a row.
Yeah!! Go Stevie Wonder chick!!
My daughter has him in her room in a old aquarium with a backup MHP!!
As unfortunate as it is for the egg I was checking on, it is better for that poor chick in the long run.
When I went to go check on the egg that needed assistance,I noticed it not only had not absorbed its yolk sac yet, it also had its intestines outside its body.
This is the first time I have ever seen anything like this.
After researching what to do, it seemed very bleak for this poor thing.
I went back to the incubator and noticed it was not going to make it much longer, so Thankfully my 15 year old daughter Is stronger than I am and looked at me and said "mom, I am going to end its suffering".
Of course she had her long cry afterwards, and who could blame her.
I feel terrible I was not strong enough to do it myself, so I could spare her that terrible feeling.

Ok,
Had to get that out!!
Well out of 31 eggs that went into lockdown, we have 25 live healthy chicks(26 if you count Stevie Wonder)
We had 2 DIS, 1 we had to cull(intestines on outside)

Out of the CCL eggs 2 females and 1 male.(the 4th CCL never hatched)
I will take pics tommorow of the chicks and I did put green food dye on all the chicks that hatched from the "male hatcher)
I made sure they dried before putting them in the brooder.
I am going to get vet wrap tomorrow and wrap the legs to identify them, just to make sure!!

Thanks!!

Bless your daughters heart for doing that. I totally get how you feel. I have nerves of steel when it comes to treating sick animals and will learn and do whatever is needed to help them...until it gets to ending their lives...I can't do it. The crazy thing is that I know it has to happen. I also know when it comes to hatching you are going to end up with more roosters than you can keep and 99% of the time the people who want them, want them for food...and I'm OK with that. I just can't kill them myself. So, don't feel bad...I'm sure there are things that you have the strength to do that others don't!:hugs

So...of the three CL's that hatched, did the SI correspond with the hatched sex?

Your completely correct, I don't get squeamish when it comes to most things involving vet care, trying to help them, vaccinating, giving shots, etc..
All this is done with the notion that I am going to save them, but as soon as it comes to ending their life, I can't do it.
As far as the CCL and the SI goes. The answer is no.
I predicted that all 3 CCL that hatched would be females.
I have 2 females and 1 male.
I will post the paper where I had the egg numbers separated by hatcher.
I forgot to take a picture of it.
Here are some pics of the chicks. I will get individual pics and document them properly this weekend when the kids are off school and can help me.

They are precious!!! I just love babies!

Of your 4 CL eggs, I would have predicted 3 female and one male (egg #34). Which egg didn't hatch?

I'm VERY tempted to get some CL eggs and hatch them. There is a lady that breeds them on here that lives close by. Now, I'd have to promise my husband that I'd sell every single one of them as I'm out of space until we build the addition. But on the other hand...I have been wanting a rooster that I can use to make Easter Eggers with at some point. Come on y'all...talk me into it!

Wow, your right egg 34 was the only male. Egg 33 did not hatch. Looking back on my chart, I don't know why I didn't have egg 34 listed as being put in the female hatcher.
I know that is the one that had the male, I remember thinking seeing it hatch and willing it to change colors to be what I wanted!!
Why did you think 34 would be male?
Because it was the lowest SI of the CCL?
33 was the highest, almost abnormally high SI.
I literally listed the eggs from high to low SI and cut the list in half, then put them in the separate hatchers.

Yes, I thought #34 would be male because it had the lowest SI number in the CL group of eggs. Remember, I like to compare the breeds/hens eggs instead of taking the highest numbers over all. LOL...now I want to go look at all of you're numbers and see what I predicted (I put all of your numbers in a spreadsheet so I could guess)!
