I had 4 eggs yesterday ( from my 80 or more birds)....

One was frozen and split open... one I dropped while plugging my truck in..

One I broke when I slipped on the ice..

So I gained one egg..

but we ate 6.. so not a good day

I get 5-9 eggs a day from 18 hens. 4 are to young to be laying but my SLW surprised me.

I have too many Roosters.. turkeys and old hens..

i am such a softy I let them live and feed them when they really should be culled.

How old exactly do chickens live? Longest mine have lived was 5 years...

I have one that is 7 or 8... maybe a couple that old can’t be sure..

I have rooster that will be 11 this Aug and two EEs that will be 9 in April. They are my oldest now in my chickens. Did anyone catch the tender heart of @duluthralphie and his soft heart for his hens mr Dux hater.

Agility sounds like a good way to train this dog and work on energy. I use to do agility with my Golden Retriever and it's an awesome way to bond with your dog and get a lot of energy worked out. Obedience training too.

I’ve always wanted to try agility.

It’s a blast. Ever watched it on TV? I did it for fun not competition. I did compete in dog obedience back in the mid 80-90’s that’s fun too.

Morning all!

It's hatch day for incubator #1! Well, technically it's supposed to be tomorrow, but there are some seramas with pips this morning, so I'm sure we'll get a couple of "early birds" today. See what I did there? Okay, I'm done being corny.

The third egg under the silkies hatched this morning... and the jack hole silkies completely refused it. I found it wet, cold and abandoned on the other side of the coop, tried to give it back to them and they kept pecking at her. Jackhole silkies...

I brought it inside and put it in the incubator. Since I have other seramas hatching today as well, hopefully it'll dry off fine in the incubator and encourage the other guys to come on out.

From what I can tell she's too high strung. They said she is crate trained and knows basic commands, so she is at least trainable. Catahoula can be hard trainers, so I'm going to reach out to a few local trainers today. Price out some classes. I like and am good with working aka stubborn dogs, but I think at least a basic obedience class would be good for her and I both.

They have poultry there already but I'm not sure how Bella (heard her name in the video) is with birds yet. I'm actually not sure about much regarding her yet. She looks to be good with kids though, and it would be cool if the boys had their own dog.

Plus Catahoula are instinctively protective of strangers. I'm not looking for a guard dog, but taking care of its own is a great trait. I found this here early this morning.

What a cute pupper! Are those kinds of dogs considered livestock guardians, or herd dogs?

I'm currently trying to talk myself out of getting a livestock guardian for the goats/chickens. I know it's a lot of work and training, and I've never trained a dog for that purpose before.
