Good Afternoon Wunda and Kiwi, Good night America, Good Morning Europe and Africa, Good day Asia!

Apologies for being absent over the weekend, i have a sad story to tell but it has a good end, it is a bit lengthy as it covers the whole weekend:

One of the 11 Runners from my fall-ducklings was that perky little girl, always being the loudest quacker, in the first row when i was handing out treats and unfortunately a little precocious… I caught her doing that head-bobbing thing in front of the drakes a couple of times and told her repeatedly that she is too young for "that", being just two months old…

But when has a teenager ever listened to a wise "oldtimer"?

Friday afternoon, i had just finished work, jumping into my hillbilly-trousers, getting ready to go outside, i heart a young duck first loudly quacking, then screaming, then screaming from under water, while other ducks were quacking the alarm-quack. Ran outside and there was a big commotion in the kiddie pool, where the three thugs (last year's sons of Katharina Duck) were "busy" with that teenage duck, one after the other, all three of them. :(
I climbed up the hill to the pond as quickly as i could, but already too late: The three thugs jumped out of the water, leaving a traumatized, half drowned ducknager behind.
She did not even tried to climb out of the pool when i approached, was just floating in the water, legs stretched behind her, barely keeping her head over the surface, so i picked her up and sat down with her. Could not find any apparent injuries, wings were ok, her legs could be tucked under her body, she was just lying limp in my lap, panting heavily.
I did my best to calm her down, crawling her head and after about five minutes she realized where she was and tried to bury her head between my arm and my body and started to tremble.
I tried to set her down to the ground after about 15 minutes, but she started to peep like a duckling and wanted to be picked up and held again, literally hopped back into my hands. And whenever she saw one of the other ducks or drakes she squeaked and tucked her head under my arm, she refused to drink or eat, even meal-worms were refused. So running around with a duck sitting on my left arm i prepared a plastic tote for her in which i could lay her down finally, after hours of holding her. She would still not drink or eat, but tucked her head under her wing and fell asleep.
But she only stayed calm when she could hear me around, when i went too far away she started to quack franticly until she could see me again. It went like that the whole evening, i could not let her sit on the outside patio, she would quack. I could not let her sit in the kitchen, she would quack, so i had to take her with me into the bedroom.

Do you know that ducks have dreams?

For sure they can have nightmares!

That poor duck woke up multiple times during the night, screaming for help, like she was doing in the pool, trembling and demanded to be held again, so very little sleep during that night.
She still refused to eat and drink, so i took her to the vet on Saturday morning where she was examined, but no injuries were found, but ducky enjoyed to be "aawed" on by everybody. Finally on Saturday evening she ate some meal-worms and drank some water, but still refused to leave my side, so she spend another night inside, with only one nightmare event.
Sunday morning she pooped and i had to change the straw in the tote. Ducky refused to go out to yard either with or without me and was waiting on the patio for me to return with the box half full of fresh straw. At least she started to eat and drink like a normal pigduck and to poop. But she would not leave my side, even in the house, which was quite comical in some situations…
Sunday night she accepted to sleep in the kitchen, there were no more nightmares and on Monday morning she finally wanted to go back out to her friends.
Whew!
To all house-duck-keepers: How can you live with a duck inside? Or with multiple? I can't remember how many times i had to "pick up" behind her and ducks have a smell, even when they don't leave something behind.
I feel exhausted and my sleep rhythm is severely disrupted - that's why i sit at my computer at 3am.
Oh yes, caught "ducky" two times this afternoon bobbing her head in front of the drakes.
Some ducks never learn…

Thinking about a name for her…

:frow Good morning IM, have a great day... How are the eggs doing?
Hi Bob. Only 2 of 13 developed but I saw movement in them both. I’m a little bit concerned about the size of the air cell in one of them, seems a bit large and they aren’t half way through yet. Guess we’ll see how it goes. I ordered another dozen eggs from elsewhere though.
