Good morning / evening folks :frow
Good afternoon.

I just came in from doing afternoon chores dismayed that the temperatures are dropping and from finding a white phoenix hen ill. The thought of possibly losing a hen is horrid as I only have six pure hens and pullets. I'm hoping with some TLC the hen will be OK, but we'll see what the future brings.

Nope have never done either. I give a lot of eggs away for eating when my girls are laying good. I’ve bought eggs from members here. Runner/ Buffs then chicken eggs.I will need a new Roo one of these days my oldest is 12 and hasn’t been fertile for quite some time my youngest is an OEGB (4)and prefers the LF hens so you know he’s not fertilizing any one.

Are you going to let a duck brood?
My ducks don't sit sadly. Use electric incubator.
How warm are your heat waves? My ducks brood during our heat, a humid 90sF, without any problems, but I do make sure the nests are in the coolest possible place. There have been times I've set up fans to keep the air circulating.
There's afew chook people over here whose hens only sit at night but the eggs hatch perfectly because the daytime temp is around 100f (38c). Feb heat waves, when ducklings would be in a brooder are anywhere between 104f (40c) to 118F (48c) I could bring them inside but stinkly ducklings inside for days on end....

Just curious as your list is quite varied and interesting. I'm one of those that's always looking for something different.
